Put those memories away
Hide them where they can't be found
It's hard to see you in this pain
And to hear you cry in vain
Every time you take them out

Put those thoughts of loving him
Back into their secret place
I won't ask you to forget
I just wish your heart would let you
Put those memories away

---

Put those memories away
Keep them safely out of sight
I know it seems unfair
To leave him lying there
But I need you here tonight

{br}
You set a white carnation on his grave
Said that goodbye was gonna be your last
But you're reminded of him every day
And I find you loving in the past

So put those thoughts of you and him
Back into their secret place
I won't ask you to forget
I just wish your heart would let you
Put those memories away

{solo - 1st 2 lines of verse}

{br}
You left that white carnation on his grave
And that goodbye was gonna be your last
But life reminds you of him every day
That's when I find you loving in the past

So put those memories away
Hide them in your secret place
I won't ask you to forget
I only wish your heart would let you
Put those memories away

I'll never ask you to forget..
I only hope your heart can let you
Put those memories away

For you to leave him lying there
But I need you by my side

Yes, I know it isn't fair
For you to leave him lying there
But I need you here tonight

{br}
You put that white carnation on his grave
And that goodbye was gonna  would be your last
But Love reminds you of him every day
And so your mind is living lives in the past

So put your thoughts of loving him
Back into their secret place
I won't ask you to forget
I only wish your heart would let you
Put those memories away

I won't ask that you forget
Just someday THAT your heart will let you
Put those memories away

Hi Paul.  As I tried to make this sing it seemed to me I was finding too many syllables in multiple places.  Most of my suggestions are "addition by subtraction" which might not work with whatever musical direction you are considering.

Keep or sweep.  --   Very nice set of lyrics btw.

Thanks Verlon

The bridge has a different meter musically so I need those syllables - hard to judge when just reading I know. Thanks for commenting!

    Hi Paulski,
        Reliable as ever, really like this, particularly the opening verse, though it's all good. It's touching, without being sickly sentimental. I sang it the second time around. I can see where HTM is coming from with his suggestions, on paper they make sense. But whether that's the case when coupled with the music, only the singer can answer that question.

Lovely song, Paul

I totally didn't see the "the guy is dead" bit coming at all!

That gave the song a great emotional depth and was a brilliant idea.

Congratulations...you have another winner on your hands :)

You write very relatable and reliable lyrics. Every time i read your works i rarely have anything to critique. You know your way around a chorus ill tell you that. I enjoyed this and a little suggestion if you ever record this. The chorus would sound great with a female backing vocal. Hehe its so easy to get a melody in my head with your beautiful lyrics. Great story line. Just great as always.

Vintage, Paul and Rosilind

You guys are too kind!
I made a few tweaks after singing it on my commute a few times.
Hope to record it next week - and your supportive comments have spurred me forward.
So it's your fault if it sounds bad :)

cheers
Paul
