The lyrics for this song were written by my friend Alan Whittle.

Something much simpler from me this time, just voice, acoustic guitar and a little synth. And only 3 minutes of anyone's time  ;)

Any feedback would be much appreciated, and thank you for listening.

One More

Please just one more
For the road
One more verse
One line
One word.

One more memory
To be re-lived
One more sorrow
One more gift.

Just one more,
Then I'll pack away
I cannot draw my eyes away
From pictures
Painted by your pen
Of bright new dawns to journey’s end

One more
(I tell myself)
Is fine
Be satisfied by these words
But once again I am entranced
By gentle movements of your dance.

One more, one more it has to be
And maybe this will set me free
But one more couldn’t raise a smile
Even as I stayed awhile

For in those final words I read
Were all the things I’d learned to dread
One more blow upon my heart
One more dulling of the spark, it’s
Twisting, it’s turning, a spiralling end
A painful farewell, my trusted friend

Yo Bill.

Your current surroundings are having an impact on your sound.  :D

There are shades of Richard Thompson in this one,a man not afraid to try new things and carry it off with style.

A lovely listen with a big nod to English electric folk in the 'But once again' passage. Fine lyrics.

The song gets better each listen.  :)

A lovely and delicate track. The lyrics are clever and deep and well performed and set to so lovely music.

Enjoyed the listen

I've given this 2 spins and enjoyed a lot.  The time signature was a big part of it for me... like a fast waltz.  The vocals and lyrics were poignant and made me think of someone like Jaques Brel.  There's an authenticity about them.  Good stuff!
It's all too beautiful.

Great feel to this one, Bill

I really loved the acoustic lead bit just before the chorus where it seems to change key in particular...it sounds fantastic!

A lovely piece...had to have a few listens...ok...maybe just one more  :P

A poignant song, good lyrics, the rhythm guitar seemed a bit far away but seemed to add to the mood anyway...

nice work. :) :)

Vocal and general atmosphere reminded me a bit of Peter Hamill, very angular, personal and believable.

I liked the textures: the smooth keys with the percussive strumming.

Love the simplicity of the lyrics (I could learn something from this!). Very effective. Really good work all round.

Much appreciated Adam - I like it when others take the burden of lyric writing from me!

I deliberately added no reverb to the guitar in an effort to keep it right in the mix, but it could do with a touch of compression here and there, I agree.

Thank you for listening and the encouragement.

I read Alan's lyrics and the tune and time signature suggested itself - it had to race along in 3/4 in my opinion! All the music was sketched out in less than half an hour.

Thanks very much for your positive comments.

Thank you.

Surroundings - tick! Richard Thompson - tick! Saw him in Aberdeen a year ago and was blown away. English Electric Folk tick! Steeleye Span and Blackmore's Night even more so. Thanks so much for the positive feedback.

Well, I liked this but I didn't enjoy it.

I liked it because it flows nicely, it's simple and honest. Particularly enjoyed liked the rapid vocal sections copied by the guitar.

Why didn't I enjoy it? Because it made me a bit depressed and melancholy, something which I've been trying hard to avoid lately. That's no negative reflection on the song though, in fact, you pulled it off nicely if that's the atmosphere you're going for.

Well done.

Now I'm off to medicate with something upbeat. Think rainbows yodasdad, think rainbows.

Great lyrics, beautiful playing and a nice and clear structure and melody.

You are singing very aggressively here, and I don't know why exactly because the lyrics are rather gentle and romantiv, maybe a little sad. But that is just my personal impression.

Hey Bill,

Listened to this a couple of times, really like it. It's got class. Decent and unpretentious. I think you are a very accomplished songwriter to deliver a song like this. Love the textures of the guitars and the little run you do on the vocals around 1.14 you make it all seem easy but I know how hard it is to do stuff like that.

Great work,

Micky

Dude I'm 100% animal yknow. You don't give me a fonkin great beat, I don't come out of my cage. But somehow I was waggin my tail to this. Huh? Yeah this is totally excellent, man.
Using the slightly aggressive singing style with the gentle melodic guitar lines gave this a real presence that woulda evaporated  with a softer vocal. Ya took that highly emotive lyric and ya treated it like a beautiful lady, and that was  a lovely sight.
Top work, man.

This is lovely - has quite a tudor/medieval feel too it. I love the melodies and the slightly haunting strings underneath really add to the atmosphere.
As for feedback, it might be worth redoing vocals and making sure it's completely in time. Also revisiting the solo guitar wouldn't hurt either.
Otherwise I really like it :)

Hi Bill, finally got round to listening to this. Soundcloud seemed to be playing up earlier or probably user error. Like the simplicity and has the feel of a traditional olde English folk song. Some lovely acoustic guitar playing . It's a lovely song. My only minor crit would be that the vocals are a bit thin and don't sit in the mix perfectly but that is small beer. Nothing that a bit of minor tweaking can't fix  :) Grear quality again  :)
