Interesting debate going on in the comments section... :)

I think she`s talented....i just don`t feel relaxed enough to enjoy her music ...i don`t know her other albums to compare this too either.

Good range to her voice.

But i prefer this girl.

Haha I'm not sure what to think of this, but it's a very interesting response to her music.

I listened to the video you linked, and from your previous posts I would have guessed that you'd prefer Charlene Soraia. Much more mainstream, more pop. Still a nice voice and pretty decent lyrics.

What I particularly like about Marling is she's not afraid to take risks. Her lyrics are very individual, and her arrangements stand out a mile compared to other artists, particularly ones her own age.

If you're not overly-familiar with her stuff check out albums #2 'I speak because I can' & #3 'a creature I don't know' - very very beautiful.

The new album is too new to me to decide what I think, although there are already a couple of tracks I really like. Hunter & Once being the favourites.

I liked the title track,,,what i meant about not being relaxed enough is,i don`t really listen to music like i used to i.e; armchair , quiet room and a good Hi Fi system.....it`s either in the car, YouTube or other www, media..

She`s very good with words and thoughts,,,i just lack the attention span to filter out all the nuances from her music i think, although i can quite happily listen to her...i compare her to Susan Vega?

As for Charlene Soraia ,TBH i only really like this song of hers,,again i don`t know her back catalogue that well..
I guess i favour the Lana Del Ray type pop music more than this  line in female musicianship ,but at 23 shes got loads of time to develop ... ???

I'm surprised by that - not because I don't think LDR has good melodies. In fact the melodies are great, as is the production. But the lyrics... I can't get past her lyrical choices enough to enjoy her music, and you being a good lyricist, I would have thought it would really put you off.

I `m not looking for the full package with artists like her i suppose..the superficialness of her songs doesn`t bother me...i do notice the lyrics being a bit corny in places but,,like you say the melodies, they carry the day and her videos interest me.
