Title: Changing the stress in a word?
Post by: zilvis89 on March 16, 2013, 02:09:41 PM
English is not my first language and i just noticed that i think i have been pronouncing a word in a different way in a song i wrote. So the word is "headliner" i rhymed it with "fighter". I wanted to ask , if it is weird/incorrect or it doesn't make sense to pronounce "headLINER" instead of "HEADliner"
Thanks

It`s ok to stress `liner`in stead of `head`....liner and fighter are a match also..in my opinion.

Yes, it's ok.... but it's better to stress 'head' in my opinion. I always think wrongly-stressed words stick out a bit in a song, but depending on the lyric and the context, you can sometimes get away with it.
