The urge in me to rape and kill can be very strong
To punish naivety and show them right from wrong
It's in the fantasies of anyone who's ever been abused
But beyond heroes and villains, one thing remains true
That it is harder to be good
to live by this truth

You won't have me fooled, i live by my own rules
If people are people applies
Geeks were raised to be narcissist food,
till we uncovered all their lies

My sense of self has long been bruised and desecrated
I can stab my mother's brother without any hesitation
They say depression is only anger directed inwards
So i learn to punish myself to keep myself young and humble
Because it is harder to be good
to live by this truth

You won't have me fooled, i live by my own rules
If people are people applies
Geeks were raised to be narcissist food,
but we uncovered their lies

Power isn't freedom.
And creating isn't always fun.
Rulers always loose
the warmth of an occasional sun.

I can't help in my love of people to look calculated or creepy.
I distrust the larger public, but with myself i'm very friendly
Because for some, it's harder to be good
to live by this truth

You won't have me fooled, i live by my own rules
If people are people applies
Geeks were raised to be narcissist food,
but we uncovered their lies

If good was easy, we would all be doing it
If life means anything, it is what we make of it
But what i chose is not decided by the droning public
Through trial and error, i live for those who deserve it
Because it's harder to be good
to live by this truth

You won't have me fooled, i live by my own rules
If people are people applies
Geeks were raised to be narcissist food,
but we uncovered their lies
When hope fails a servant or prey,
Anger frees him from all the chains,
If hope disappoints, anger prevails,
And freedom is worth all the pain.

I can't really relate to this, as I honestly find it harder to be bad :p

But props for not holding words back. Very emotive lyrics here.

Would make one hell of a misleading 'romantic' acoustic ballad lmao.

Thanks for sharing.

Dont know your story man, but if this is one from the heart, my ghosts are tame in comparison. Reading between the lines, Uncle sounds a real sonofabitch, I dont much like him , though weve never met. Lots of anger, and a past thats not easily shook off. I agree with waffle, i find it the easiest thing in the world to get along with people. But maybe we havnt had to deal with what this guy has. Powerful and somewhat disturbing, but i dont turn away from that, you made a connection.

I'm sorry to say that the first two lines alienated me straightaway and I can catergorically say that as someone who's spent his whole life working with people who have been abused, the urge to rape, kill and punish naivety is very rarely one of their fantasies. They often have feelings of revenge but not in the way you suggest. Clearly you have some evidence to suggest otherwise, so I wouldn't go so far as saying I'm right and you're wrong, it's just my experience over the past 30 years.

Of course I may be way off track and you weren't actually being literal and that the opening lines were metaphors for something else. Unfortunately I could only interpret them as a I saw them.

I'm pretty sure there's a message for 'good' somewhere in there but I'm just not getting it. I'm sure you could explain it's true meaning Jonpromos, but that kind of defeats the object as there would be no one to explain the true meaning if I simply heard it being sung on the radio for example.

I'm all for people expressing their true feelings through song and I'm sure there will be a people out there who will connect with this one, guess I'm not one of them.

I don't think there's any doubt you have a way with words and create good imagery but unfortuanetly this one just doesn't tick any of my boxes I'm afraid.

In terms of the structure it seems to work pretty well and I get a sort of 70's prog rock feel about it.

Appreciate your feedback.

By "harder to be good", it's my hats-off salute to anyone who stuck by their moral codes/principals. There's a lot of honour in that. Because the urge to lose it is very high. To be everything you hate. I was punished for being naive. And i blamed myself for not knowing things. I was taught the hard way. So if you ask me, I would do the same thing to someone else. Very much so.

Difference is... i learned not to blame myself. I learned that i didn't deserve those things. And that they weren't normal.

There's no hidden message. And it's pretty obvious which side i'm leaning on. This song is in defense of putting other people first. So it's definitely harder to be good. But more rewarding.

The song is what it is. And I'm proud to have sweat my balls for it.

That explains the first line.

I found this a little tricky to follow, but some good imagery. Perhaps it's good to love bad people, maybe that's what you meant by the lyric about the occasional sun.
