You need to think up a story....the trouble is mirror of motions,,,doesn`t mean a lot.....mirror my emotions on the other hand does...something to reflect back.

+1 to getting a story sorted

A good place to start is to get some words and phrases down on "paper" (or screen) related to your title and the words in the title

Mirror, glass, reflect, broken, 7 years bad luck etc. etc.

DO NOT filter out any cr@p or cliches at this point just build up a bank of wrods/phrases

The cliches are likely to ome first so let them come - you will then have to start thinking of more challenging words and phrases

Another good trick is to also look at "opposites"

hide your reflection, 7 years good luck etc.

This can give you double the number of options and often lead to a more interesting story - "I broke a mirror and got 7 year's good luck by meeting you" etc.

Here is Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors", which may help generate a few ideas within a lyrical context:

[Verse 1]
Aren't you somethin' to admire, cause your shine is somethin' like a mirror
And I can't help but notice, you reflect in this heart of mine
If you ever feel alone and the glare makes me hard to find
Just know that I'm always parallell on the other side

[Pre-Hook]
Cause with your hand in my hand and a pocket full of soul
I can tell you there's no place we couldn't go
Just put your hand on the glass, I'll be tryin' to pull you through
You just gotta be strong

[Hook]
Cause I don't wanna lose you now
I'm lookin' right at the other half of me
The vacancy that sat in my heart
Is a space that now you hold
Show me how to fight for now
And I'll tell you baby, it was easy
Comin' back into you once I figured it out
You were right here all along
It's like you're my mirror
My mirror staring back at me
I couldn't get any bigger
With anyone else beside of me
And now it's clear as this promise
That we're making two reflections into one
Cause it's like you're my mirror
My mirror staring back at me, staring back at me

[Verse 2]
Aren't you somethin', an original, cause it doesn't seem merely assembled
And I can't help but stare cause I see truth somewhere in your eyes
I can't ever change without you, you reflect me, I love that about you
And if I could, I would look at us all the time

[Pre-Hook]
Cause with your hand in my hand and a pocket full of soul
I can tell you there's no place we couldn't go
Just put your hand on the glass, I'll be tryin' to pull you through
You just gotta be strong

[Hook]
Cause I don't wanna lose you now
I'm lookin' right at the other half of me
The vacancy that sat in my heart
Is a space that now you hold
Show me how to fight for now
And I'll tell you baby, it was easy
Comin' back into you once I figured it out
You were right here all along
It's like you're my mirror
My mirror staring back at me
I couldn't get any bigger
With anyone else beside of me
And now it's clear as this promise
That we're making two reflections into one
Cause it's like you're my mirror
My mirror staring back at me, staring back at me

[Bridge]
Yesterday is history
Tomorrow's a mystery
I can see you lookin' back at me
Keep your eyes on me
Baby, keep your eyes on me

[Hook]
Cause I don't wanna lose you now
I'm lookin' right at the other half of me
The vacancy that sat in my heart
Is a space that now you hold
Show me how to fight for now
And I'll tell you baby, it was easy
Comin' back into you once I figured it out
You were right here all along
It's like you're my mirror
My mirror staring back at me
I couldn't get any bigger
With anyone else beside of me
And now it's clear as this promise
That we're making two reflections into one
Cause it's like you're my mirror
My mirror staring back at me, staring back at me

[Hook 2] x10
You are you are the love of my life

[Verse 3]
Baby you're the inspiration for this precious song
And I just wanna see your face light up since you put me on
So now I say goodbye to the old me, it's already gone
And I can't wait wait wait wait wait to get you home
Just to let you know, you are

[Hook 2] x8
You are you are the love of my life

[Verse 4]
Girl you're my reflection, all I see is you
My reflection, in everything I do
You're my reflection and all I see is you
My reflection, in everything I do

[Hook 2] x16
You are you are the love of my life

The title had me thinking about looking in your review view mirror - what do you see? Your life? Someone you fancy, who know?
Hope thats of some help.

Go for it.
I find once you've got a title and a concept it becomes so much easier to write lyrics because you've got a focus. Whether its a story or whatever you need somewhere to start and something to aim for. The rest you can work on, a bit like filling in the blanks.

This made me think of the Mirror of Erised in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I'm not suggesting you write a song about that (though you could!) but perhaps you could look up other stories that feature mirrors and think about their significance. Obvious example: Snow White (Mirror Mirror on the wall...)

In writing, I have a tendency to think of titles or phrases I really want to use when I have no context for them, and spend ages trying to squeeze them in unnaturally or writing lots of mediocre (or rubbish) material just to fit them in. When I finally let go of the original phrase the song sometimes comes together very fast!

Conversely, as Neil said, having a starting point can be really inspiring.
The first song I wrote came from a writing exercise in a book about songwriting. I only read the first page of the book, but glad I did. The exercise was something like:
Each morning choose an object and spend three minutes writing about it. Not thinking too much, just writing whatever comes into your head.
I looked out of my window and decided to write about street lamps, and that became my song. It's not an amazing song, but I still love it!

I find google handy for most things in life  ???

Seriously I often just google random phrases and see what comes up, steal lines from a good poem , news headlines - whatever - just something to get you started or through a sticky patch

I googled 'mirror of motion; and got 'All the diamonds that show the moves should be red and selected.'

Got to be a cool lyric there ;)

why not throw some smoke in there too? "smoke & mirrors', I'm sure I've used that myself somewhere in the past...
what else do we know about mirrors? backed in silver...silverback...gorillas! - maybe you see reflection as a gorilla - I'm stopping now :-)

Yes, I don't think there's any shame in using this method as a starting point at least!

That said, I have a 'song' in mind that is just two lines I completely lifted from a piece of artwork. I also slightly misread the lines at first and decided to keep the misread words rather than the actual ones, but I am quite excited about making a short song out of them.

Allan, I intend to read the rest of the book. If the first page made me start writing songs, I want to know what the rest can do!

I realise this is not an immediate help, but when this happens to me, I simply stop thinking about it.

Let your unconscious mind write the song for you, and put it onto paper when it comes to you. Play around with your guitar every now and then to see if your mind has written the song.

That's what I often do anyway.
