My grant application, for the money I hope to use to kick start my "Late Bloomers Rock" project, will be considered at the Region 2 Arts Council this evening at their 5:30 pm meeting. That's my time--for most of you, it will be 11:30 pm and, if you're in Spain, it'll be tomorrow at 12:30 am.

So I hope you'll cross your fingers, pray, or whatever you do to influence outcomes, that my application will be considered favorably.  ;D

Hopefully,
Vicki

Thanks to you all! I generally hear back from grants within two weeks. Really, there's no reason they can't tell me tomorrow, but they have to get organized enough to notify all grant applicants at the same time, I suppose. They've posted on their website in the past, so I'l be checking that, probably, every day starting tomorrow.

Yes, but also a little scary. I have to carry out the whole plan or I have to give the money back. It isn't anything I can't do, but the grant part is extra pressure. Good pressure, though. My start date is March 1, so I have a few days to get my mind on straight first.

Hi Vicki,

I'd love to hear more about the plan.

There's more to the project than what is covered by the grant.

The part covered by the grant is basically (1) getting a website built and running, (2) having six songs produced, and mastered, and (3) posting at least nine completed songs on the website.

Beyond that, my vision for the project is to showcase and encourage "late bloomers" (like me) and to spread the message that:
1. It is possible to start something new/realize a life dream at any age, including especially ages that typically are considered "too old".
2. It isn't necessary to be an expert in order to do something, even to do it with abandon. :)
3. Success doesn't necessarily equal rich and famous

To prove it I'll be posting bios of late bloomers in various fields (primarily the arts, but other areas may also be covered), both famous ones (like Laura Ingalls Wilder or Grandma Moses) and not-so-well known ones like the weaver I know in a college town not far from here who has a successful arts-based business.

That's the nutshell version.

That's wonderful Vicki! The plan/idea sounds like a very worthy one, too. Mary Wesley may fit your well known Late Bloomers profile:

Congratulations Vicki and good luck. Seasick Steve is another late bloomer but you may have already thought of him.
