thats it really, I have read about dropping the recording by an octave in the DAW, has anyone got any tips on making it sound fuller and maybe less obviously just a guitar dropped by an octave. Maybe some fx? Or filters etc...?

 :)

I know it's not the best approach but I don't have a bass guitar or the funds to buy one :(

:)

I don't think you will ever create a satisfying bass line from an acoustic guitar

You either need to buy one (a cheapy second hand one may be fine) or use a synthetic bass - but even this will still be lacking the "magic", presence and punch of a real bass

I have to agree with Boydie on this one.

I've been there and tried that myself and was never able to achieve anything really satisfying.  I certainly can't say that it can't be done, but I gave up trying.  I broke down and bought a cheap bass and I'm really glad I did.  It's fun to play a bass.  ;D

If you can't buy a bass, and don't care for synthetic bass, you might try a collaboration?  Someone might be willing to play the bass line for you.  Especially if you already have the bass line you want written out in either tab or music.

If you're open to someone else playing bass on your track, I'd be keen to have a crack at it Hab - PM me if it sounds like your thang :)

Thanks guys, thanks Tone for the offer..

I have decided, based on your comments, to use GarageBand for my bass tracks.

I'll let you know how it goes

Good decision Hab - I think you'll get much better results from sampled bass than from pitch-shifted acoustic guitar. Looking forward to hearing the finished article :)

I've tried pitch shifting my acoustic some time ago and gave it up as a bad job.

If you find a nice bass midi sound you can possibly use your guitar as a midi controller to try to get a more authentically played sound.

use your guitar as a midi controller

I haven't actually tried this yet with my guitar, but the method definitely works...I've used it for other things.
Take it easy.

You can check my stuff out here. Mini-album getting bigger slowly. Free download if you're poorer than me.
