Wierd sentence

Wierd sentence

Ive been writing some blues lyrics
Lately and i had to rewrite a sentence
To make it fit with the melody.

The original lyrics was

"Last nigh i had
My babe came knoknin at my door"

But ended up with:
"Had my babe last night
 knokin at my door".

The lyrics fits well with the melody
But is the sentence grammatically  correct?

I think that's fine for a tune, especially the blues.
