So here's my entry for the Drum Challenge, as suggested by @adamfarr

Mostly doing folky style things now, so it was great to use some of the guitar distortion effects!  So it's just bass, distorted mandola (!) and vocals. What fun :)

I like this version a lot! The beat totally suits the song. Really cool rework. Much more fun. Yeah, good job!

I recognise that drumbeat, did you steal that from me dasntn?  Expect a cease and desist letter any day now.  >:(

Love this. The song has great pace.

Great Brit R&R. The solo, offbeat and quirky. Meaty, beaty, big and bouncy!

Magic,It's my fav of yours to date.  8)

Didn't hear the original but like this one very much.
Very much understand the feeling of being crushed by the wheel of the day to day.

Works really well with the drum track. Excellent effort!

Yeah, I recognised the drum track as well Dave. Great upbeat slice of new wave. Like your vocal style and the singalong chorus in particular and there's attitude in those lyrics and the music in general. Great stuff

I loved the original as you know - you've squeezed it into this drum track with great skill! What an amazing low-fi guitar er, solo! Enjoyable listen Dave!

This sounds great!! and suits the drums track perfectly.

I think the stand out here was your vocal delivery. Great voice and brilliantly sung! Great lyrics too....the first drum track challenge song I've listened and what a way to start!!

Cracking stuff, Dave...sounds like those drums were made for this. I really enjoyed the lyrics and I reckon this is the perfect delivery system for the songs message.

Excellent  :)

Hi Dasntn!

They sound like made for each other!
Put together with your music the drum track sounds real uplifting.
Simple and distorted is a good way to go.

I'm not hearing the same drums at all - but they all seem to be the same length  :D
This is a fun track with a quirky vocal (are you related to Adam Farr ?
Lyrics are (sadly) relatable.  ;D

Solid work - good luck!

Didn't hear the original - would like to see the lyrics - got a nice raw feel to it - quite catchy - feels like a punk aggressiv number - doesn't blow me away but certainly gets the adrenalin going

A Nice bit of Mildly Angry Middle Class Rock ;)
Can imagine as a theme tune to Radio 4 Comedy Show.
Great bit of fun.

Has Ray Davies entered the drum challenge?
Dug this one a lot too, very quirky English eccentric vibe, and that nasty sounding guitar solo in the middle is spot on.
It's all too beautiful.

Kind of!  As a kid my house was 300 yards from Ray Davies home, so I guess there is a bit of shared dialect! Sadly never met him (but later found out my mum was a friend of his mum - such missed opportunities!!)

Here's the lyrics, for @Katie Wilson and anyone else who's interested!

The time is close to midnight and you’ve still got lots to do
The meetings in the morning and they all rely on you
The conference call to California, didn’t sort a thing and all the
Barking dogs and crying babies didn’t help it too

And you’ve had enough of this driven corporate life
The pushing and the shoving, the struggle and the strife
Meeting after bloody meeting, nameless places, faceless people
Timesheets and expenses are no measure of a life

Drive down to the airport and get on the morning plane
Taxi, hotel, meeting room, they all just look the same
Tell them of your products glory, tell them all the same old story
Off into the sunset, a new place to play the game

And you’ve had enough of this driven corporate life
The pushing and the shoving, and the struggle and the strife
Meeting after bloody meeting, nameless places, faceless people
Timesheets and objectives are no measure of a life

There’s been a big reshuffle, to reflect the market change
Your team’s become an overhead, you must share the blame
The HR group will be in touch, we wish you all the best of luck
Now hand in your laptop and that shiny new smartphone

And you’ve had enough of this driven corporate life
The pushing and the shoving, and the struggle and the strife
Meeting after bloody meeting, nameless places, faceless people
Timesheets and expenses are no measure of a life

Spend your time with genuine people, no agenda, and no hidden meaning
Time’s your own to do your thing and start to have some fun

And you’ve moved right on from the driven corporate life
No pushing, and no shoving, and no struggle and no strife
No more having any meetings, and  all places have a meaning
Now you know that love will be the measure of your life
