Title: Mic choice
Post by: Koolkat on October 10, 2012, 04:21:11 PM
I have got hold of an M-Audio Fast Track USB for a good price, so to get me up and running I need a cheapish mic (sub £40) Two that seem to get good ratings are the Shure SV100 dynamic and the Behringer C1 Condenser mic.  I know I need to spend more to get professional results, but at the moment I don’t need that. Given that the Fast Track has a phantom supply for condenser mics, is the Behringer a good choice?

Behringer gear is normally a good choice between quality and price. I have quite a bit of their stuff and have found it very good. I dont have the mic you speak of but I have heard good reports. I use their pencil mics for my acoustic guitar and am reasonably happy with them. For the price you will be hard pushed to find better.

Any chance of you upgrading that budget a bit? Sit back, wait a bit, save a bit...

For that kind of price, you may be able to pick up a used SM58, SM57 or an MXL model (MXL 990) or even perhaps a rode nt1a or an audio technica at2020
all those would be a comparable or better than a behringer c1
