Hi,
Here's a little ode to love, ageing and communications. I wrote the lyrics to an exercise around the theme of listening and gave it to talented songwriter http://www.leedesty.co.uk/songwriting/. His fingerpicked version sounded quite different with drop tuning where's I've straightened it out a little. And then Alan kindly put some lovely 'pedal steel' and bob become my uncle.

Anyway enough talking do let me know what you think.

 :) Neil

I haven’t heard a thing you’ve said
I know I wasn’t there
Just thinking about
How to help
It’s not that I don’t care

I used to hang on every word
And swim in every line
Now time is tight
And talking’s light
I see the warning signs

And if out time for talking goes
I know you’ll find a way
If I try to tell you how I feel
I know you’ll understand

I’ll never hear your every word
But know that I still care
The hearing goes
But always know
My love’s forever there

And if out time for talking goes
I know you’ll find a way
If I try to tell you how I feel
I know you’ll understand

Lovely Neil & Alan. You're sounding very relaxed vocal wise Neil. Suits the song perfectly. Lovely pedal steel and harm.

Excellent lyrics.
Very smooth production.

The delivery is certainly very nice, almost too nice.
But that's just me.

The whole thing is expertly executed.

Two major talents.  :)
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

Hi Neil,

This is a lovely collab between you and the melody writer. The 2 parts sit together perfectly and your production is absolutely spot on. My contribution is tiny but I was pleased to help. It sounds like it's been there forever and you've just plucked it out of the air.

A lovely tune, it would have been tailor made for Jimmy Nail's Crocodile Shoes album.  Lyrics that are straight forward, simple yet effective melody, and beautiful mouth organ.m

Well done

There's a lot to process in the lyrics. The music is really sweet and it reflects on the happy life they've had together. The things they're losing don't really matter because they know each other so well; they understand. It's really lovely. Well sung, well written, well played, and the outro is excellent.

Very easy to listen to...recording sounds great...

My only criticism would be that your printed lyrics dont always match what you actually sing and that caused me to get distracted.
I personally love following the lyrics so that I understand the sentiment behind the song etc.

But that aside, a really nice piece of work....well done!

Paul.

This is really nice - an enjoyable listen and an obviously successful collaboration. As someone has already mentioned I am impressed with the outro...nice

Hell yeah! Great collaboration guys.

Name me a song that isn't made better by the addition of the pedal steel, go on, I dare you. And then you go and finish it off with some smooth harmonica. You're really pushing all my buttons here guys.

Very Dylanesque 'blowing in the wind' throughout this and I also got shades of M.A.S.H 'Suicide is painless' at times. Don't know if this has already been mentioned.

Nice work both.

This works very well, sounds great!
What surprised me most (in a good way!) was the vocals.
In the past I often found your vocals a tad 'strained' for the lack of better words, but now, for a few seconds , I was not even sure if it was you singing  :)
Dunno if it's the key or if you changed anything else by this is the best vocals I've heard from you (as far as I can remember)
The rest is good as well, pedal steel works a treat and mix is well balanced and clear.
Well done!

Had to check this again.

usually I don't care for sliding guitar
forgivable here though
the lyrics have so much resonating insight
really quite touching, makes me think of deceased dear ones and the unresolved issues we had.

Thanks for sharing.
