So I'm finishing up a recording, and decided to try *all* my mics (sorry)

I can't make up my mind which one sounds best, so if y'all would be so kind as to have a wee listen to the clip, can you tell me whether first, second or third sounds best to you?

I've tried to balance the volume on each as best I can, and they're all using the same EQ settings for a fair contest.

Interesting test

I have sent you a PM with my thoughts

I would have liked to have heard just the vocal without the guitar and fx

Interestingly I recently saw an interview with Beyonce's engineer

He usually sets up a range of mics and lets her record a few lines with each - she then chooses her favourite and that is the mic they use

Ok, so I think that's it in terms of replies. So...... here are the results!

Mic 1 was a Studiospares dynamic mic, their answer to the SM58 if you will.
Mic 2 was the SM58
Mic 3 was cheating slightly - it was 2 mics blended together. The SM58 and this old in-guitar mic I've had lying around for years unused. I tried it because I was frustrated by the lack of 'silver' in the 58.

I haven't got my PM in my outbox but I think that matches what I said

All were very usable IMHO

I think I said that #1 was a little "woolly"

#2 had the better definition

I also think I said #3 sounded like a mix of the previous 2 - giving a more "rounded" sound

I think I went for #2 as the pick of the bunch for this particular song - and seeing your list it is probably the one I would have gone for had I been given these choices without hearing them
