Hi all

Just wanted to stop by and say Ola from Menorca

I am staying in a Villa and it is gorgeous  ;D

WiFi has suddenly appeared so I am taking a break from swimming in the pool, eating and drinking beer

My "holiday read" has been Paul Zollo's "Songwriters On Songwriting" which is a fantastic read I highly recommend

It is lots of songwriters (Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Bacharach and David, Sammy Cahn, Goffin and King etc.) talking about how they wrote their "classics" and their approach to songwriting

There are lots of common themes emerging, which I will share when I have finished the book

Taking a break has been really refreshing and inspiring and I can't wait to get back to writing and recording and I will also be looking for lots of collabs as well if anyone is interested?

Gotta go and get the BBQ going for tonight's feast  ;)

Ola Boydie!

How nice of you to drop by. That's a great book, especially for the chapter on Paul Simon. Couldn't have chosen better holiday reading myself. Actually I thinking of picking up Lowside of the road (Tom Waits biog) - don't suppose you've read it? Wondering if it's any good.

Don't forget to relax  and enjoy yourself, eh? See you when you get home. :D

Book sounds awesome. Will have to have a look on the Kindle store.

Holiday sounds awesome too. Ergo, I hate you right now!

I don't think it is on Kindle

That was my plan but I had to bring the print copy, which is about the size of 2 house bricks!!!

But worth bringing!

You can borrow mine when I am done if you like

hi ho boydie,
i liked menorca, havent been for a while but had some good times there, nice place to chill..
sounds like a good book and will check it out.

Actually I thinking of picking up Lowside of the road (Tom Waits biog) - don't suppose you've read it? Wondering if it's any good.

hi tone, yes, well worth it
ive read it and enjoyed it, tells his story in detail from the beginning..
bones howe, his producer and kind of mentor in the earlier years is an interesting chap too, the development of their relationship and waits moving on into film and meeting kathleen brennan..
i didnt feel as if i was in the room though, maybe looking thro the window..think the clues in the title..'a life of tom waits' . barney hoskins is a quality writer and not sure you can get any closer till ol tom writes his own.
same with dylan, the biogs are informative but theres always a one step distance but if you read chronicles by dylan himself you get more of an insight. same with neil young, his own 'waging heavy peace' is quite inspirational about songwriting and ideas plus hes a great story teller, the words just flow beautifully. plus his attempts to create a digital audio reproduction system for grown ups for the real sound of music..very interesting..
so recommend both of those too
i may not believe this tomorrow...

I love how even when you're on holiday you're all still reading songwriting books...STOP WORKING ;D ;D

My holiday read was We Need To Talk About Kevin, so I spent my three weeks in the south of France (hard life eh) being emotionally unstable and crying. There's no Paul Simon in it but it was still amazing.

Enjoy the sun Boydie
