I have a question which could apply to the competition or generally. It is this ..
What happens in the competition if the writer of their words has asked earlier for a composer to write music for the lyrics and someone has done this, even if the music isn't considered the best style for the words. I wonder if it should be mentioned somewhere if the words then are treated as only words again with no existing music agreed upon?

Thankyou for any enlightening replies. :)
Marrianna

Hi Marrianna,

Probably the approach taken will vary with who's running the competition in any given month... But personally I'm taking the lyrics as words only, whether or not there is extant music for them. It may not be the right approach, but it's the one I've gone for this time round... :-\

Hope that answers your question...

Matt

Hi everyone.

It was too close to call for a long time, but the final few votes pushed one lyric ahead of the others. So the winner of September Lyrics of the Month is... Arkwright, with This Old Bench!

Congratulations, Arkwright, and to the runners-up, all of whom scored votes in this closely fought race.

And now we're going to need a volunteer for the glamourous job of running October Lyrics of the month... Anyone who's interested, please reply to this thread and let us know.

Thanks for voting, everyone!

Matt

Thanks guys, it's always a bit special getting recognition from your peers.

Thank you so much to all who voted and congratulations to all the nominees.

As some of you know, my lyric writing days ended a short while ago, so it's nice to go out on a high.

Good luck to next month's nominees.
