Hello,
this is my first thread in this forum. i came here primarily to get some feedback and to share some of my rather limited musical knowledge. I'm from germany (didn't really find a forum which meets my expectations), so please be considerate of that concerning the lyrics.
Here's the song i want to share with you tonight, recorded at home with the great help of my roommate, good friend and drummer.
Feel free to comment the song in any way (writing, lyrics, recording):
http://soundcloud.com/rhoadsmusic/basement-wonderland

lyrics:
give me your hand
and follow me down
i'll help you land
softly on the ground
where virgin soil awaits
look behind the wall with me
there's only love down here
no hate, you see
there's only love down here
no hate
you see you vibrant image
cleary in the glass
in your eyes the look
you never watch, you never see with
in your hands the warmth
you never shook a hand with

play basement wonderland with me
play basement wonderland with me

don't be afraid
to follow me down
don't be afraid
to finally hit the ground
it's rockbottom
it's rockbottom
made of candyfloss
where suns and moons collide
where our ways will always cross
where fire and water
finally make their peace
where fire and water
finally make their peace
where cats and dogs
 do finally get along
leave your fears behind
don't trip just write
your inner song and
sing it while you're gone
you can't be wrong
just stick with it

play basement wonderland with me
play basement wonderland with me

regards,
hintweis

Bloody hell! That was just fantastic. I don't know where to start! It already had me

hooked with the melody of the vocals over those two dischordant piano notes.

And then it built... and the melody of the vocals and the surrealness of the lyrics grew even

more interesting. I'm a sucker for dischord  :P And then BANG, the long instrumental ending which

made me think I was on the verge of stepping into the bowles of hell. ( That choir thing always does

that to me :p)

Will be listening to this lots!

Brilliant.

Very interesting piece. A unique style, and the melody in the verses particularly caught my attention. The haunting instrumental close also very effective in the mood of the song.

I will say thought that the only thing that didn't sit with me was the manic percussion breaks at a couple of points. But this could be purely down to personal preference.

Look forward to hearing more from you.

thanks very much for your feedback you guys. i'm glad you liked it so much !
@ cameron
yes - i think it's a matter of personal preference and i totally get why one may find it quite annoying. it can be perceived as major disturbance, but we just wanted to play with people's expectations andd try to "wake up" the listener, tickle his attention in a way. and it seems to have worked ;) in one way or the other.

Very different from the usual posts here and in a good way.  :)

Great track.
I have no authority or standing here, only opinions. :-)

Very imaginative. Scary in places, bleak in others, not afraid to take risks, breaks all the rules structurally. Very cinematic in a European arthouse sort of way. Evocative.

Of your other tracks I think you should let people here have a listen to Dreams Are the Place to Be. Sometimes comparisons are unwelcome, but the only other time I've heard music like this is from Sigur Ros.

As noted above, very strong and evocative. Although very original it brings to mind artists like Radiohead, Bjork and the Bristol trip-hop bands. I'm a sucker for hooks and melody myself but this would appeal to many who like music a little off the beaten track. Good stuff.
