If these lyrics seem vaguely familiar, it's because they are inspired by a lyric HardTwistMusic posted. I started reviewing his lyric and I got a little wild...but HTM liked the result, so we're collaborating.
The topic is basically, how far is one willing to go to back up one's principles? For instance, "I" am very willing to pay lip service to various civil rights, as long as it doesn't put me or my family at risk.
So, is it too wordy? Too long? Too cumbersome? Too obscure? Most importantly, does it get the point across? Any and all feedback is very welcome!
CHORUS
I know vengeance will be mine,
but does it matter when I'm dead?
When my house burns, someone will quench the fire,
but I'd prefer I be saved instead
VERSE 1
I don't mind supporting the war, as long as my children don't join the fight
If they're at risk, then I say "no"; I don't care who's wrong or right.
When it's time to make an omelette, I know it means breaking some eggs
And I don't mind; it's really okay, as long as it's someone else losing his legs
CHORUS
VERSE 2
When a stranger suffers, I sympathize. I understand he's feeling pain
And I would help him; I really would, but I know all my efforts would be in vain
He's too far away, what can I do? What's happening is "way over there"
When the trouble isn't in my own backyard, it's too hard to pretend I truly care.
CHORUS
VERSE 3
Did you know Russia is closer than you think? Just like a predator right across the hall
And Mexico is but across the river. Way too scary, better build a wall
When the foreign people from so far away are starving or murdered or worse
It's not up to me to set things right; it's likely what they deserve.
