Also, copyright theft is extremely difficult to prove, since it's not enough to say 'their song is a copy of mine'.
I agree with this, so many songs sound 'similar' especially nowadays, people are subconsciously being inspired by other music, which shows in their own. Currently, katy perry's song 'roar' is being looked at for copying Sara bareiles's song 'brave', before that it was 'born this way' lady gaga and 'express yourself' by madonna. There are only like 7 (?) chords (A,B,C,D,E,F,G) (I'm talking guitar here) and although they come with loads of variations, minors, sevenths, etc there are only going to be a few chord progressions that sound good, so many people are going to be using the same, or similar sounding ones. I never worry about copyright.

What's the difference between posting your stuff on YouTube, to on a songwriting forum? Surely it's still dated?
