Title: Latest novel now out!
Post by: MichaelA on April 06, 2024, 03:19:12 PM
Hi all, I know a handful of folk on here enjoyed reading my last comedy novel, ‘Gavin & The Bodysnatchers’. What better excuse than to shamelessly plug my latest offering, ‘Peckersley’s Bird Café’.

This one is about a retired chap who is a mad keen garden bird feeder. He’s happy enough, until an army of hungry squirrels demonstrate they too are very keen on fat-balls and peanuts. A Man Vs Squirrel war ensues, at the same time as the protagonist’s family relationships crumble before his eyes.

It’s on soft launch on Amazon at the moment while I try to encourage a few reviews. Last time this took about three or four weeks. If anyone on here fancies an entertaining read, then leaving an honest review, well that would be very helpful.

The lead character was in a band in the 70’s - and they became novelty, one hit wonders. So I had fun writing that song too, deliberately cheesy as it is. The song ends up playing a key role in how the story turns out. The song and a trailer for the book are both on my website https://madwriter.co.uk/ (https://madwriter.co.uk/)

So now that I have got that novel off my chest, watch out, as I might turn up on here again with a proper new song of my own!  ;D

All the best for now 👍

Michael, Good to hear from you, I wish you every success with this, I have to be honest I'm a non fiction reader (apart from the occasional Dickens) so stories aren't really my thang. I am in awe of you, that you can create all the threads, plots and nuances, must be good for one's memory cells, total respect to you man.

Looking out for your next tune.

Rgds

Michael, really looking forward to reading your new book. Gavin and the Bodysnatchers was a fantastic romp and very funny. Wishing you every success with Peckersley’s Bird Cafe!

Hi there @cowparsleyman (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=21308) and @Bill Saunders (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18525), thanks very much for the best wishes re my new novel. It has officially launched this week and there’s been an encouraging response so far.

Unlike my songs, which are all free listens, I find it amazing that people are much more OK about parting with actual cash for my stories. But hopefully I’ll get the bug for writing some music just for fun soon.

Cheers again 👍

It’s great that your excellent books are actually ‘worth something’. My brother paints portraits in his retirement and it provides some additional ‘pocket money’ to supplement his pension. I wonder if at some point in the far and distant future releasing an album will ever do the same? I find it hard to imagine!

Hi @MonnoDB (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=19820), thanks Karen. I didn’t know you’d read my last one, so cheers for that. I’ve got an Irish female character in the latest too. Mainly because, along with Lancashire and Scouse, these are the only dialects I can ‘hear’ in my head! Tries Geordie, but apart from ‘why aye’, I was stumped.  ;)

@Bill Saunders (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18525), re getting paid for music, I was listening to Spotify today and realise that I just opt for ready made playlists these days. Partly cos it’s easier and partly because my knowledge of modern music (outside of my younger era) is limited. I wonder if anyone on here has tried to make it to playlists on the big platforms? Might be a way in? But again, something I’m a bit ignorant about. ..,might also be worth a separate thread?

Hey Michael - great to hear that number three has been finished and published. The first two were pretty damn unique and funny. I think everyone just has to do what they like doing, but indeed the differences between the book and music "industries" are weird.
Anyhow, well done and hope you're doing well!
