Hello again beautiful forum people!

I'd like your feedback if I may. The forum's doing quite well in terms of page views per month now, so I'm thinking of putting a few ads on to see if I can generate a little revenue.

What I want to know is: will it put you off visiting?

I thought I'd change the position of the ads depending on whether a user is logged in or not, so that active members' experience of the ads will be gentler (in other words near the bottom)

Thanks for making this forum what it is, folks!

Wouldn't bother me mate :)
There are holes in the sky where the rain gets in  , but they're ever so small, that's why rain is thin.

Hi Tone,

Advertising wouldn't bother me at all. It is very considerate of you to ask this question.
Thanks,
Paul

That's fine by me. Hopefully the revenue will ensure that running this won't leave you out of pocket.

Feel free to advertise. As long as I'm free to ignore it!  ;D
Seriously  though, not an issue for me. If it helps you continue to provide this resource, carry on McDuff!
I have no authority or standing here, only opinions. :-)

I know a guy who runs a forum like this which has Google AdWords ads and he encourages all users to routinely click the ads. He makes about £2k a year from that!

Wow - that's an amount worth having! Do you know out of interest roughly how many page views he's getting each month?

I'm still looking into this. In terms of revenue, there are other ways of generating some that might be less intrusive, or feel more suitable for the kind of community we have here.

I'll post again if I decide to go ahead, and please do share your opinions of whatever direction the forum moves in. Without the members, the forum is nothing.

You guys rock! :D

I think he's getting about 20k impressions a month (clickthroughs, hits, referrals etc) The key is that he tells users when they log on, to click an ad. Works a treat!
Also with AdWords, you can tailor the content of the Ads to reflect the site so many may actually be beneficial to your users anyway.

I don't mind. Do Firefox users have permission to make the ads disappear with Adblock Plus?  ;)

hi Tone,

I do get some advertisements in between the posts, no problem at all...

some of them are funny, the ads seem to be connected to terms we use... ???

any way, I received an ad saying: Do you want to improve your Dutch? ::)

I think that is one of the few things I master quite well

Haha yes the ads are generated according to the content of the page they appear on. You have google to thank for that...

So long as they're not getting in the way of enjoying the forum, that's the main thing.
