Here's one for our American friends, that are feeling the pinch like some of us over here.
Strong team of horses
It's gonna take a strong team of horses
To pull this thing around
A strong team before we're homeward bound
We're a long way from the promised land
That someone said we'd found
Take a strong team to pull this thing around
Hard working mother
Kid pulling at her sleeve
He wants a baseball glove so he can pitch
She has to tell him sorry son
The money can't be found
They put it in the pockets of the rich
Old black man in New Orleans
Sits thinking to himself
Seems a long time since the hurricane
But when i take a look around
It could have been just yesterday
We're still waiting for the wind of change
Gonna take a strong team of horses
To pull this thing around
A strong team before we're homeward bound
We're a long way from the promised land
That someone said we'd found
Take a strong team to pull this thing around
Desperate man in custody
For pulling out a gun
They took the home he worked so hard to buy
While robbing hoods in offices
Hide their crooked deals
Seems to me they put the cuffs on the wrong guy
Look up at old glory
Whatever state you're in
And ask yourself did we get it right
Look up at old glory
With a hand upon your heart
And tell me do those stars still shine as bright
It's gonna take a strong team of horses
To pull this thing around
A strong team before we're homeward bound
We're a long way from the promised land
That someone said we'd found
Take a strong team to pull this thing around.

Love the theme and the 'strong team of horses' line is excellent. That whole verse/chorus that is repeated through ('gonna take a strong team of horses...') is really good.
Did you have a tune in mind already? The only problem I have is that very often the rhythm of the verses don't match up...different number of syllables, .e.g 'Hard working mother' vs 'old black man in new orleans'.

You'll remind our American friends of Dylan, I'm sure.

Really like this, and agree that strong team of horses is an excellent line. Great writing, and the syllable count must work with the rhythm you have in your head.
