Hi, sorry I'm late on stage but for some reason I thought it next week and had to hurry to get here.
And I tell you its not easy, I've never done anything like this before, playing guitar, singing-ish and recording. Amongst other things I kept on forgetting the words. Big respect for singer-songwriters and buskers!
So here's the least worst takes for your enjoyment/endurance, shot on a secret location…
;D

A bit of the other - written in 1978
Do you know what I mean, you’re making it seem like a bit of the other
If you know what I mean, it’s a little bit obscene like a bit under cover
Of darkness, so down come the night, someone sick again so turn on the lights
Oi, Oi Oi
Well you think you’re OK, take the piss all the day. You’re a bit of a mother
Daddy’s clothes are so smart, you’re a bit of a fart. Oops, there goes another
Jack the lad, we’re stick in the Standard all night. Pissed as newts again its a sorry old sight
And we all like Ian Dury. And we all like Ian Dury. And we all like, a bit of the other
Kevin and Doris drive in a Morris, while Chris has a jolly good crap ( and tells us all about it an’ all )
Oh we’re ever so bitchy, while Chris he gets itchy. ‘So scratch it’, he does in full view
Of the girls who cry “ it ain’t all there’. They laugh, they sigh but it’s all in despair
And we all like Ian Dury. And we all like Ian Dury. And we all like, a bit of the other
Julian Cope - written c 1995
Julian Cope is alive and kicking.
He ain't dead, he's just been missing
Julian Cope is a very sound bloke. Indeed
Julian Cope is alive a kicking
He says he’s OK, but he’s probably been trip pin’
Sighted walking way out west
Swinging pants and wearing a luminous vest
Earth-mother loving son. I hope you like this song
Julian Cope. Julian Cope. Julian Cope. Is a very splendid fellow
Julian, Dorian, Albany and Avalon
Avebury, Silbury, Neolithic vagabond
He’s been heard singing way out west
But now he’s back doing the things he does the best
Earth-mother loving son. I hope you like this song
Julian Cope. Julian Cope. Julian Cope. Is a very splendid fellow
Hindsight - written in August this year on the way back after a session with Montydog in Devon.
Looking back’s no good for me I haven’t got the time
From where I’m at, and what I can see I think I’m doing fine
But I wish I hadn’t met that girl, I fell and she did too
Into no good company, took my name, my house and flew
My Daddy’s sitting in his chair, watching things unfold
I said sometimes life just ain’t fair, how come I wasn’t told?
I wish I hadn’t got that loan, coz I cant pay the rent
And that I hadn’t spent all the cash and the bank would just relent
Always looking forward, driven by the flow
Way too busy doing stuff, l can’t take it slow
Making sense in the present tense but now I’ve got to go
Hindsight maybe a wonderful thing but I guess I’ll never know
You have to live, to find out what it takes
Wise men learn from others, fools from their mistakes
Yes I’m driving straight ahead, down this bumpy track
And if hindsight’s such a smart guy how come he’s at the back?
Always looking forward, pulled on by the tow
Way too busy doing stuff, l can’t take it slow
Making sense in the present tense but I’ve got to go
They say that hindsight is such a wonderful thing but I guess I’ll never know
I guess I’ll never know

Cheers! Oh you made me really fancy a glass of wine. Not to mention a holiday to a sunny French riverside idyl!
So rocknroll, keeping the fans waiting!
Well that really put a smile on my face. Your personality shines in your performance! Three great songs. And I just loved the whistling finale, so cool!!
Cracking performance!

Nice one Neil....life on a boat hey..pretty good mate!!!

Hi Neil,
I have been looking forward to your performance....and you didn't disappoint.
Great setting you choose and you were super relaxed. Must have been the beers and the wine. I did notice the hat :)
The songs were all great I particularly liked the last one, but to be honest they were all splendid. Your character came through loud and strong, what a lot of fun you had putting these together.
Well don't mate, best show to date in my mind.
Allan.

That was excellent Neil, really really good. My 2 year old was dancing around the lounge to the first one, so that's my favourite. She's now also saying "one more song one more song" so I think you have a fan :)
What a lovely location as well, I lived on a narrowboat for two years and when I see that, with the sunshine and the boats going by, I miss it.
You've just set the bar even higher, thanks >:( :D
Great job Neil

habiTat,
Thanks for your kind words and I can only say your daughter has great taste. They are so much fun at that age before they get al cynical and grow up...
:) :)

Cracking stuff Neil. Relaxed, made it look easy and technically great visuals and sound. You have a very dynamic guitar style which really drives everything along. Confident performance which I enjoyed very much and made me wish I'd done a better job of mine :'(
-
Alan, you are too kind really. Relaxed - maybe the booze took the edge of things but believe I was nervous as hell and didnt feel that confident on the inside, especially with the singing. However i did feel the setting was perfect...
