Feedback on Finished songs / Do You Want To Get A Taxi ?
« Last post by pompeyjazz on Today at 06:09:36 PM »
Hi All, I won't be on the forum for a while as I am off on my travels for a few weeks so I'll leave you with this one which I wrote and recorded this week. It's about the dangers of late night Taxi queues, which certainly were (when I was younger) a fairly hairy place to be. I'm rarely out late these says but I'm guessing that some things don't change !

Ch1
It's no fuss if you want to get the bus
It's a long way home
(Do you want to get a taxi)
I'll be right with you at the end of the queue on a Saturday night
(Do you want to get a taxi)

We had our fun, and it's getting late
But we've got to get home
(Do you want to get a taxi)
Creatures of the night in their finest attire, now it's getting loud
(Do you want to get a taxi)

V1
I've seen some sights on the street
The kinda people you don't want to meet

Ch2
It's no fuss if you want to get the bus
It's a long way home
(Do you want to get a taxi)
I'll be right with you at the end of the queue on a Saturday night
(Do you want to get a taxi)

All of our friends have disappeared
And gone underground
(Do you want to get a taxi)
Something here feels quite unsound
So we gotta go
(Do you want to get a taxi)

V2
Strange kind of feeling in the air
What's going on beneath that sub human stare

V3
Sometime you just live life on you wits
One unruly move and they're tearing you to bits

Yes I wrote it , But right now , I want to hold off on writing more , Or I might end up like Willie Nelson laying on a road at 2am and hoping a car runs over me . Well thats a bit extreme Willie , i think your bullshitting me

Another slinky pop / soul vibe from you @subvibe Great vocals and use of percussion and marimba. There should be more songs that use percussion. The whole thing swirls round in my headphones rather wonderfully and you've made great use of the stereo spectrum. Nice work  :)

Fabulously dark and mysterious @moraamarolaloba Your vocals reminded me of Ertha Kitt on this one. I love that sweeping drum pattern that kicks in on the second verse and the wonky voices and percussion that make an appearance. It all adds to an eerie and quite unstable feeling (In a good way) Great to hear another one from you Mora  :)

Nice song in that country style @Elvis Nash I'm a bit confused with your blurb about the song. You say, you're too lazy to write a new song and this one is in your key so you'll cut this. Apologies for being thick, but did you actually write this and if you did, how did you proceed after that ? I'm assuming that you've got session guys in to sing / play. It all sounds very professional

I really enjoyed listening to this one @Dorian It's quite unique and your vocal works very well with this style of song. Clever and considered lyrics and I love some of the sounds that you have conjured up. It's got a wonderful freshness that is sometimes lost in more overproduced stuff. Excellent song  :)

Beautiful lyrics and very thoughtfully done. I think the vocal is beyond criticism in something like this because of its message, honesty and integrity. It’s perfect for what you need to do…and that’s all that matters.

We weren’t quite as obviously diverse when I was a youngster…the name of the game was mostly just not to draw attention to yourself and try to avoid getting mugged for your dinner money, or your head kicked in by one of the local basket-cases for no reason whatsoever.

It broke a lot of people.

Hi Paul
The second part of your post
Makes me reflect.

I'm an expat living in Germany
My 50+ y.o. pink brit friends seem to have this survival mode going on
Just as you described it.
Draw no attention, head in the sand, avoid getting mugged by psychos and taxmen.

Then there's me with a steadfast aversion to meds,
my active interest in sport and nutrition,
my voluntary struggles to develop and realise ideas in music.

I'm rattling, hungover from a birthday party last night.

All the best 👍
