I should learn to let go and allow other people (who are far better tan I) play on my songs as they would probably sound way better.

However, I just know that it would take so much longer to finish them, so I just do it all myself as I think I just about get away with it.

Also, having to support two teenage sons in college, we don't have enough spare money to pay for real musicians.

This song was written with Sandy Ramous , hits with Dixie Chicks Faith Hill ect ect
I had most of it , she helped dial it in
I play guitar melodies on a ton of solo writes . But always hire session players to make them sound more professional.
Where I'm at today , cut a few old songs like this
Buy Rick Beato theory tapes and see what's up that I can improve on , On guitar melodies , Structures and all that jazz , He's got all this nailed .
I might hire Brent Baxter again to write , "Somewhere South Of A Memory " I don't want to come off as old with a CT scan coming up . nobody wants to hear me crying in my beer

That's interesting.

So what parts do you play yourself? Obviously you sing, and write. What other instruments do you play?

This is how this worked on this song . I'm sick of pitching songs . So I got the tracks and added a harp player
Sang it had BZ Lewis mix it .All my songs are collaborative Nick. I like the interaction with session players and a producer.

Hi @Elvis Nash

This is pretty good to say it's a country song :) . As always, the production and mix is excellent.

I'm curious, what is the recording process with your stuff? I always assume that users write and record most of their stuff themselves but I assume that your stuff is more collaborative?

This is fabulous. It reminds me of some of the bands I grew up listening to. Having real musicians on board is, I think, essential when you got a major shift in temp part way through like this. Program that into a drum vst and it's going to be hard to make it sound convincing however good you may be at drum programing. Loving the lyrics...err and Elvis' lake! ;D

many thanks. @ChrisPrice

Not heard anything from you for a week or two!! Keep 'em coming my friend :)

Nice track this @Nick Ryder Makes a big difference to get real musicians on the case when it’s possible. Lovely minor chord progressions and well thought out stops and starts. It’s got an almost psychedelic feel to it. Tempo change works really effectively too. Top work man 😎

Thanks, John @pompeyjazz

Yeah, I'm really lucky that I have friends who are very talented and have their own mini recording studio's, so when it comes to drums especially my mate Steve is happy to record them. We help each other out so I've contributed guitars, backing vocals and even songs to some of his projects.

Believe it or not, the tempo doesn't change in this song at all. It's only the feel that changes which is deceiving because it does feel like a tempo change!! It's a neat little trick.

We should hire session players , or we stay on the road with robots . Over saturated PRO TOOL toys , Jesus Christ
Everybody bitching about the music , but buy AI toys , While Bob is trying feed his family the great guitar player , Or Susie the violin player
Sad Dan the professional songwriter now a Walmart greeter , Well we won't hire him , will buy AI toys
Lets leave on a positive note, most artists are fishing in the same watering hole , Nicks song sounds original to my ears .
