Mhm, I might even be a bit stronger with it and say, just because you don't know what a certain chord or key change or whatever is called, it doesn't mean that you don't know exactly what you're doing. Which is to say, in my mind these people did know exactly what they were doing. You can only really do something by accident once, after that you know what it sounds like. I tend to think too, that people really overerestimate how much they landed on by accident compared to the vast majority of what they do, from watching other people play, and working out how to play their favourite records.

Good views Hillbilly, and I agree, I think it is a romantic notion to think songwriters just blindly and ignorantly happen across things. Yeah of course you m,ay do this with a hook or a flash of inspiration, but the building blocks are learnt and internalised.
