Title: "For You" - a dancey rocker about death
Post by: GuitarArt1980 on June 09, 2014, 07:17:49 PM
Haven't posted in a while. This is a track off by band Shapes+Faces' upcoming album "Skylines". This one is about the euphoric feelings often reported during near-death experiences.

Would love to hear what you all think!

For You

If it came from nothing, I don’t wanna know
Takes a gaze before it becomes so
And all that you saw might be the end
But it don’t feel like a fall
into nothing, not at all

When you walk out that door
Are you alive and safe inside your love
Up in the stars
Out from a light you run

Caught in the tether of the sun
The animal knows what it wants
On starry nights out in the yard
Visions come broken in shards
Lets you know just what you are

When you walk out that door
Are you alive and safe inside your love
Up in the stars
Out from a light you run

I don’t know why
I don’t know why
I don’t know why
So stand, stand in line

For you.....

Wow superb production! The real hook in there is that riff. I'm dying for that to return from when it first appears. Bet that is a popular one live. I really like the song. It is very polished and I wondered what a looser set up might sound like, a bit of buzz, feed back etc, as the song has such energy. Really like this, nice one.

Moves along nicely, well played and arranged.
Good intro. I particularly like the "When the walk out the door' section with its edge guitars, I think its a strong hook and I would look to bring it back towards the end somehow.
Nice one

Hi, very professional sounding recording. The vocals and arrangement reminded me a little of don't fear the reaper, which is a great song. Well played loved the guitar sounds.
Good luck!
Cheers

Great sound...guitar excellent. I like the song structure too. The verse melody and metre is great. My only problem is with the 'When you walk out the door' bit.
It isn't so strong here although the underlying guitar is good.
Otherwise song and sound are first class.

Thanks so much for all the kind words! We definitely got lucky and scored a good deal with a local studio owner who really knows how to mix a track.

I'm really curious how you all would describe this sound. We're in the process of spreading the word about our band but we're completely lost on adjectives and comparisons.

Thanks again for listening

Really catchy song...well played and recorded.

Had me bopping...nice U2 vibe at the solo section

Mix is a little unbalanced and low mid heavy

Good job!

Loved the energy, arrangement and mix. Guitar is great. Bass and drums punchy.
For me,  the melody line wasn't as interesting as the instrumental backing and didn't stick in my head like those catchy guitar licks. Also calling the song "For You" might not be wise as it is only sung once in the song. Maybe "walk out that door" ?
Sorry to nit-pick - I do think it is a really great sound!

Many thanks! I must admit I'm drawn to songs that don't contain the title in its refrain (Pearl Jam does a lot of these), which I imagine would make it hard for someone to look it up after hearing it once or twice. Thanks again for listening!
