Hi everyone
Thought of this one the other night watching the Toronto maple leafs lose a hockey game.
Comments and recommendations are welcomed with open arms!
Thanks in advance!

Die-Hard Fans of Love
Copyright © 2014 Tennyson Road Music

The weekend's finally here
I've got the big game on TV
You're sipping tea, I'm drinking beer
You've got your crochet on your knee
I say "We've gotta win tonight!"
You give support, pretend to care
I watch the playoffs go out of sight
But there's a sport we still tend to share:

(ch)
We're die-hard fans of Love
You'll see us here at every game
When other fans have had enough
You'll hear us cheer on every play
We never think of giving up
When we're on a losing streak
We know with minutes on the clock
Our love will come back from defeat

Other couples that we know
Wonder how we're going strong
While they have trouble sharing goals
And their games are going wrong
But when the score is looking bad
And everyone else has left the stands
Our love plays more than twice as hard
To satisfy its die-hard fans

(ch)
We're die-hard fans of Love
You'll see us here at every game
When other fans have had enough
You'll hear us cheer on every frame
We never think of giving up
When we're on a losing streak
We know with minutes on the clock
Our love will come back from defeat

{br}
It's never too late to repair
A score that isn't adding up
And if we always play it fair
Love will put us right on top

(ch)
Because we're die-hard fans of Love
You'll see us here at every game
When other fans stop showing up
You'll hear us cheer on every play
We never dream of giving up
No matter how the season ends
We know our Love will win the cup
And satisfy its die-hard fans!

Excellent lyrics

Didn't feel bogged down as a song only concerning hockey and love
Can pretty much relate to any sport

Second verse is outstanding too

Keep up good work

Thanks so much for the kind words. I hoped it would be generic enough to fit all sports, so glad it came across hat way.
Cheers!

Thanks Tony - means a lot coming from you.
I re-wrote the bridge - hopefully it's a bit better now.

This made me laugh, well done for getting a hockey & crochet metaphor for everlasting love - genius!
I don't believe your photo now though, this song must have been written by your grandad ;-)

Hi Paul,

You old romantic you!

I was a big fan of the analogy at the core of this.

Sports fans do tend to have blind faith come what may and true love never dies!

I imagine her being a closet sports fan and sneaking a look over her crochet or while reaching for a slurp of her tea.

A pleasant read indeed!

Cheers,

Phil.
I don't know what i'm doing but i do it anyway.

Hello Paulski,

Nice lyrics really like it.  ;D
please don't take offence at this but has anyone ever told you that your writing style is very similar to that of The Wurzzels lol  ;D.

When I read your lyric I thought of an old Gene Pitney tune.  "Looking Through the Eyes of Love."

It's not similar.... but when you compare love and fandom.... both come down to seeing things in the person or team that no one else can see, AND that might just not be there.  :o

This one was a little harder for me to follow the flow on than most of yours.  That probably means you have a particular bit of music picked out for it that my mind can't find easily.

Hi Verlon
Yes - I do have a melody in mind - I seldom write a lyric without one 8)
Thanks for the visit and comments!
