Ok, here is my effort, after three weeks and three separate versions, a fair bit of head scratching and several late nights of mild torment. This newest version comprises of fourteen separate tracks (my original version was two..?). I finished this about 6 hours ago and I'm still liking it so far, but my judgement cloud usually only dissipates after about four days so it may turn out to be pants. Here's hoping it's not too bad though and I'm really looking forward to hearing everyone else's :)

This is beautiful ! Cool how everyone interpretes a completely different mood into these lyrics, I really like it :)
The chorus just blew me away, harmonics really surprised me after the calm first verse, but they're perfect!
Did you actually mic a piano, or is this a VST (cause it sounds great! I've experimented with piano sounds in the past and never come close to anything like this)?

wow, very cool singing melody you found for the lyrics

and that change to the prechorus and then into the chorus is genius (lovely chorus! and that snare is great)

man, this is a great solution of the bleuprint challenge!!!

what a talented lot of songwriters out here

Habitat! This is great! I really like it, especially the lovely delicate touch you have on the piano (I'm a little jealous!).

A really heartfelt performance, especially considering they're someone else's lyrics.

A strong interpretation of the song, and the harmonies on the chorus lift it beautifully. You're a talented man, sir.

*tips hat*

Ahh man I can't keep this up.. The piano part is from a program I downloaded called Chordpad, I used it to construct bits and pieces for the song, by editing, adapting and altering pre-programmed sequences. I then put it all together with my actual recordings/effects etc. on Audacity. Boydie is currently tutoring me in the art of MIDI so for now, my options are limited with regards instruments and arrangements.

A lot of you are much better musicians than me :(

Habitat, that was clear already
(about the piano work)

but your singing melody
the song...
and how you solved the blueprint challenge is excellent songwriting

don't worry about that, it is great

Hi habiTat,

Great vocal performance, very distinctive and clear throughout!  A very enjoyable piano introduction Great build up to the chorus.  It's subtle yet very effective! It's great to hear the very different interpretations that songwriters are posting of the blueprint lyrics.

Well done!

Thanks Dutch, I felt bad when people kept saying nice things about the piano.

P.S. I've emailed you re. the dog idea

See, here is the shame of Band in the box stuff. I too wanted to praise the piano. I was gonna say it was very tight playing, over quantised perhaps and a little too jaunty where some modesty would have worked well.... And lo, its a robot! A programmed, directed robot... But a robot no less. You are a cool guitarist so I was under the impression you had a hidden pianist thing going on. Oh well...

That aside

Great melodies. The lyrics are indeed well adapted and the performance emotive. The harmonies are pretty and the whole thing gels like a creative original

Nice work

Lovely tune. Builds beautifully.
Like the piano. Lively. It may be programmed but I cant play piano properly either and usually use a combination of scoring and playing. But you've still got to have the ideas in the first place.  ;)

Good piece of work dude.  8)

Well ,i heard this albeit a stripped down version a couple of weeks back...and knew then that Habitat had a strong interpretation  , they were never written to be banged out,so to speak...it`s the simple touch that brings out the melody,,and so we have another very good song, that im sure will be well received..
