How do you guys write? It's obvious that most of the people here play an instrument as well as write lyrics and I wondered what the general trend of writing is here.
So, do you guys mostly come up with a tune or riff or chord progression and put lyrics to that or do you write lyrics then work out the music to it?

I write the lyrics first, handwriting them initially then, when they are becoming complete, type them out on the PC.

There follows quite a bit of editing when I come up with the music, and have to marry the lyric and music together. It probably takes a week or so from the original title idea to be ready for recording stage.

Both at the same time? Its usually a line of lyrics, a line of melody etc etc, or vice-versa for me.
