I think it is lovely :) Your voice is is so soothing, it literally makes the listener's mind travel. Loved the guitar playing, as well. I think that getting a better mic would be a good idea, since it seems to me that the vocals kind of overshadowed the guitar.

This is a gorgeous track

A new mic would elevate this to a whole new level

I am not sure of your budget (or the connections on your audio interface) but if you can stretch to something like a large diaphragm condernser you won't regret it

For £70 you can get this: http://www.dv247.com/microphones/se-electronics-se2000-mkii-condenser-microphone--104222

There are also some other brands to check out

You will capture all of the subtleties in your voice and playing - and probably get the sound you hear recorded

As for the song I think you could tweak it a little to make the meaning/message clearer

After the first listen I could not tell what "couldn't come close"? - and close to what?

All of the emotion is there in your playing and vocal but I didn't connect as well by not having a clear meaning/message - get this nailed and you have a super song!

Thanks, I appreciate the feed back. I will have a look at that mic... I know nothing about recording at the moment so I'm trying to do some research into what I need.

The song is about feeling homesick for a place I used to live in Australia. The lyrics are about me turning to music and songwriting as a way of trying to deal with my emotions, and saying that even though doing those things won't take me back there, nothing else comes close. I'll definitely take another look at it and see if I can convey it more clearly.

Mostly already been said....I like everything about this.....the feel, your vocal and phrasing is excellent, the picking and melody. Simple, haunting, atmospheric.

Write a hatful like this, record them properly and see where it takes you......you deserve to be heard by a wider audience. Good luck. :)

Really nice, great vibe, very good lyrics. The whole thing really drew me in. It's rare that I like the whole constantly arpeggiated guitar as a foundation but it works fantastically well here.

Just a personal taste I guess, but I feel this was begging for a middle eight section of some kind, a different place to take the tune, or a different chord structure just for a little bit. Again, it doesn't take anything away from this.

Brilliant job.

How did I miss this?

This is really lovely, the guitar, the vocal, the simplicity of the whole thing, I really like it!
Right up my street sir.

I can't really see why you'd want to rewrite it, or change it at all, but I'm a sucker for simplicity.

Excellent!

thanks for sharing  hab..

Beautiful

Love me some of this stuff.

The lyrical weight is just right. Great playing for a live take. The "nothing comes close" hook is simple but even on first listen I can feel it going into my brain like a virus!

Were you to take this on to a full prodcution I would be careful to not over do it.

The mmmmmms would be lovely softly hamonised and layered
Some soft strings
Some VERY sparse and low-in-hte-mix bass drum and shakers perhaps

And of course a killer close mic'ed vox and guitar

Great understated writing that hits the genre with a bang!

Lovely track... you got it, don't lose it. Musically Simon and Art which is great. Vocally your you, which is even greater.
“Acoustic laid back new wave punk indie folk with a sprinkle of deep meaningful day to day observations on how the world goes round and round and round and sometimes I actually notice this happening and decide it’s worthy enough to write a song about.”
