I think it's interesting sometimes to see what other people think are your influences. Sometimes it could be a band that you have ever heard (or even heard of) before.
That's happened a couple of times to me; both times it turned out to be a pretty big compliment.
:)
So, who do OTHER people think that you sound like? Or do they think have influenced you?
Some I've gotten:
Pavement
The Kinks
Gram Parsons
Velvet Crush
Belle & Sebastian
Peter Laughner*
The Go Betweens*
*I had never heard them before I got the comparison

Starting with the ones most frequently mentioned........
Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Jon Anderson of Yes, Paul McCartney, split enz, Robert wyatt, Radiohead
Additionally some bands I don't know........
Zero seven, sneaker pimps, 6 underground
And many others I've forgotten.

Many years ago I did the electric guitar grades as part of my prep for teaching guitar
For my Grade 8 exam I had to play an improvised solo over a complicated (i.e. Jazzy) chord progression, which was right up my street
I just let rip with a bluesy, jazzy, rock solo and the examiner was very impressed (I think I scored full marks) and he said my style sounded like Larry Carlton - who I had never heard of before he had mentioned it
I got a few Larry Carlton albums and it was spooky to here someone with a similar style of playing to me that I had never heard of before!!!!

Social Distortion has popped up a few time, did not know them.
Same thing with Great Big Sea, Gaslight Anthems and Dropkick Murphys.
Scorpions and Michael Schenker has been mentioned as well (but they were not new to me).
And Shane MacGowan of course.. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Michael Schenker is well worth being compared to! He's my favourite hard rock guitar player - a decision based on just a couple of UFO albums, but with the exception of a certain Mr Blackmore there are few other hard rock players that move me the way Schenker does.

Garbage
Wait, they weren't talking about the band :o
-
Brian Eno and Frank Zappa
-
A bad Karaoke singer trying to sing like Mick Jagger ;D
-
Billy Joel, Neil Young and Hank Williams Jr. - oh wait they're not bands... ;D ;D
-
I can't think of any comparison anyone has made about us :-[

That could be a very good thing!

I was once compared to Gordon Lightfoot. It was a very flattering comparison to me.
I'm often compared to "some sixties band I can't quite remember." Not so flattering.

Paulski,
Whenever I hear your music, I think of Glen Campbell. More to the point, I think that you write like Jimmy Web who wrote many of Glen Campbell's hit songs. :)
