Jon Fratelli as far as songwriting goes, Rou Reynolds for lyrics (though I don't aim to write all my songs as politically charged as his, I just like the idea of 'if you're going to say something, say something useful')

Pete Doherty, especially when combined to Carl BarĂ¢t; Morrisey/Johnny Marr and Alex Turner. I think I have a little bit of Chico Buarque (Brazilian musician) in my songwriting style, sometimes.

I consult Arthur Lee from Love first, then Bob Marley and Sam Cooke, then Morrisey and finally anything current, put on Radio 1, steal two or three notes from their idea, put some fingerpicking under it and go off in a random direction.

cant agree with you there stc, lennons last 'proper' album was a lot of sentimental twaddle, he was really treading water...

Wings existed longer than the Beatles..what did they do Band on the run!..then what Mull of Kintyre,,Ebony and ivory..frog princess......just review JL`S greatest hits compilation[i`m sure you know it well ;) ]

One clearly missed the other  and i know who was doing the missing..

hey you cant have a row without me  ;D
altho the beatles were before my time i still think they were the greatest pop group ever
macartney was a melodic genius but was also twee & soppy
lennon was a original thinker & a rebel & a embaressing fool
put them togeththr & you got something wonderful but on there own they were nothing but at least maccas melodies were musical.... lennon had very little to offer musicaly.... i think people who like him are just attracted to rebels & get of on that

Tina, he wrote... Imagine, working class hero,Jealous guy....to name 3...  these are pure songs.he wasn`t poppy like Sir Paul......  Lennons been dead for 30 years don`t forget,,,,how many other classic songs could he had written
