Just written this an hour ago. Have done a wee quick acoustic video of it, purely so I remember the melody as I have a habit of forgetting  ::) Will do a proper recording of it this week when I have time. Hope you all enjoy it :)
Just done a very quick recording of this which is now on Soundcloud, be nice to hear what you all think.

7th of May

In she comes like a hurricane
Twists and she turns ah but she never learns
Makes the same old mistakes again she can’t slow down
She smiles with fragility
Tells everyone that she’s just having fun
Is she really into me or am I a clown

There’s a sadness in her hazel eyes
Like the tears that she’s trying to hide

She’s soft and she’s warm and she’s gentle and kind with a beautiful smile
She gives me that warm fuzzy feeling that I haven’t felt in a while
And she scares me to death I don’t know what to say
If I tell her how I really feel then she might run away
Come the 7th of May

And we talk about days before
Dreams that were broken a gesture a token
Then we’ll kiss just a little more fall into sleep
We don’t talk about love n stuff
I’ll tell her someday find the right words to say
When I feel that I’m sure enough she’s loving me

Until then it’s one day at a time
Till she gives me a hint or a sign

She’s soft and she’s warm and she’s gentle and kind with a beautiful smile
She gives me that warm fuzzy feeling that I haven’t felt in a while
And she scares me to death I don’t know what to say
If I tell her how I really feel then she might run away
Come the 7th of May

I know the wars she’s been through
I’ve got the scars on me too

She’s soft and she’s warm and she’s gentle and kind with a beautiful smile
She gives me that warm fuzzy feeling that I haven’t felt in a while
And she scares me to death I don’t know what to say
If I tell her how I really feel then she might run away
Come the 7th of May

Good lyrics, overall a good song.hints of Del amitri.....my only fear is that guitar rhythm is too heavy?

The final production won't be like that, it's difficult to hear the dynamics of the song from the video as it's just done on the webcam. I'll get a proper recording done this week with some nice strings and maybe a bit of hammond in it

I really like it very much, great lyrics, and can't wait to hear the more polished version...should be great. A few comments...I think in the final recorded version this song needs to build with dynamics, there are few times when the guitar volume and intensity drops, and it should do so with the lyric to bring the tune alive and be more intimate (in my humble opinion)....secondly, I wish the story or lyric had a resolve...and You use the line Until then it's one day at a time....which would be a perfect end resolve to the song...see below...

And with each passing day, I'll pray she's here to stay, past the 7th of May

Nice work, thanks for the listen!

Hi Mike, thanks for your comments. I have a few ideas in the melting pot for this so will be trying a couple of them out during the record. The resolve to the song is that there is no resolve  ;) The 7th of May is obviously a very significant date for very personal reasons which I won't divulge, but the subject of the song knows what they are, and therefore only she can resolve the song..........come 7th of May  ;D I imagine there will be a conclusion in the form of a new song come that date one way or another.
The 7th of May is my birthday but it's events which have plagued that date which gave me the idea for the song. On 6th May 1970 my Dad was in Milan watching Glasgow Celtic lose to Feyenoord in the European cup final, then on the way home he made a phone call home to find out I was born (Yes he would rather watch Celtic than see his son born) He always joked it was the worst 2 days of his life   :D
Since then events have happened on my birthday, so this song was borne out of that.

Nice chords, melody and the theme/lyrics. No sure I can remember anyone with the lines about warm fuzzy feeling?
Look forward to hearing what you do with it.

It's clearly a great song despite the quality of the recording. Chords, melody, lyrics and vocals all fantastic. It's got a real drive to it and you have a real gift for fitting melody, arrangement and lyrics together. I'm hearing Del Amitri in there somewhere - I think it's your voice. Once it's recorded properly it's going to be awesome.

Hi Mark,

I agree you're going to have to pay a lot of attention to the dynamic buildup of this song. Subtle changes are needed throughout as you have such a recurring E/Emaj7 strum going on.

I think you'll have problems with the drums unless you take it more towards percussion. I wouldn't put drums in personally. 12/8 time can be troublesome unless it's rock.

Great lyrics and acoustic rhythm base.

Looking forward to where you take it.

Ps - I think your plan to add strings could be great.

Alan.

Mark this has got real energy and passion. Really enjoyed this - no production atall but it was a great listen - melody, structure, middle 8 - liked everything about it.

Don't polish it too much - might lose something.

Good one Mark I get the Del Amitri to I think its the struming pattern and phrasing but it's good stuff.

I love the line "She smiles with fragility" matched up with "Is she really into me" for me it really sets the song up.

I look forward to hearing the finished product. (Your quick recording is better than the ones I spend days on !)
