Just found this cool article - haven't had a chance to read in detail yet, but looks pretty interesting, especially if you're a hit seeker

Oh hell yes, it just seems recycled. Not saying most if it but maybe like 30% of it which is still quite big

Well I guess the article speaks for it self.

I think it's a result from a very basic way of human learning. Repetition.
When you know a song will only last for two months no matter how good
it is, why spend time on making great music?
Instead you beat a non sense lyric into the listener and hope it sticks.
Add to it repetitive music to a predictable rhythm. Maybe even some
sound effects to grab the listeners attention. Scratching for example.

There will of course still be great music made, and hopefully it will be
discovered before the artists who made it are dead.

I can't help thinking some of this increase in repetition is down to the change in technology over the last 15 or so years. I'm willing to bet that every song in the top 20 is produced using a computer now. And the one thing computers can do that tape can't is repetition. You can copy/ paste that mutha till your heart's content.

I have a feeling this mainly happens during the demo/ scratch stages of production, but if that version is what gets the suits approval, that's the version you're going to polish up into a complete production.

No evidence for this, just a hunch...
