Title: Shadows On The Wall
Post by: Sterix on August 17, 2021, 09:19:37 PM
Not been active here for the last few months. Got a little stressed (understatement!) and had to take a little time out to recover myself. And I've also been busy working on the lyrics for an upcoming album by The Grassland Sinners (the band I've been working with for the last two-and-a-half years). They're currently in the studio tearing the original, rough recordings to shreds and putting them back together in a more professional manner.

Which means that yours truly has had to touch up/re-write the lyrics I was already looking at as the finished articles. How naĆve was I? :P

Anyway, I've been popping in now and then, lurking in the shadows. I thought I'd better poke my head above the parapet to let you know I'm still around.

This song was actually written for another band who share the same lead singer as above, and it's actually been released as part of an EP (I wrote the lyrics to the other two songs on it as well).

I was actually caught off guard with the release of these songs as I saw the lyrics as still works in progress (indeed, if you listen to them, you'll notice some differences in what's written and what's sung - if you want to hear them, go look up Groove Nazar on Bandcamp)

This is song number two on the EP...

SHADOWS ON THE WALL

Sometimes
You and I
End up reading from the same page
Pretend
Now and then
We could still bring out our "A" game

Two strikes!
Black is white
(And the rainbow is receding)
Too late
Hit the brakes!
(Don't you realise we're bleeding?)

We are heading for a fall, girl
Have to face the fact we're doomed
We're just shadows on the wall
That's what's left of me and you

Well the past
Doesn't last
Nor the present, nor the future
We changed
But who can say
When the dream became the nightmare

We are yin and yang and drowning in the ocean
Like oil poured on water
We're running out of options

Two strikes!
Black is white
(And the rainbow is receding)
Too late
Hit the brakes!
(Don't you realise we're bleeding?)

There's no Heaven after all, girl
Just a dying hope or two
And the shadows on the wall
That's what's left of me and you

This world is not the one we knew
So what's the use?
See the shadows dancing / mocking, prancing / parody of love
Feel the heartbeat fading / time to face it / nothing can be done
Oh no!
Nothing
No! No! No!
We're just shadows on the wall
Yeah!

Shadows fading in the moonlight
Shadows failing tonight
Hiding in the shadows
Hiding in the shadows

So I posted this one some months back but I wanted to update on it. As of 5 minutes ago I just signed a document that will entitle me to 10% of the royalties for this song! Of course, (a) it's not likely to be much and (b) it might not be anything - at least for the moment. I don't have a way to collect my share at the moment and it's not worth the financial output at the moment to allow for that. But it's the thought that counts and money was the furthest thing on my mind when I agreed to write it.
I feel a little more comfortable posting the video now so:
