Hi everybody,

just started to create my own Spotify Artist Page.
i have just uploaded one of my first own songs on Spotify.
It's a duet with an Irish singer from Dublin.
It's about never giving up in life and keep on going.

I just joined this forum and it would be amazing if you give me you honest constructive feedback on this.
I also paste the you tube link:

https://open.spotify.com/track/6BfETfqPKt4lGpd3bRO0XC?si=31b61cd389ac4c1d

Thank you very much in advance.
Highly appreciated

Best regards
Alex

Lyrics:

You ask me something about my dreams in life
Then I reply to you hey:
Only you create your own paradise
Hang on to your way it’s the very best you can do
Don’t ever give up on your dreams
First to yourself be true

Hang on to your vision
Nothing is too far
Life is how you feel it
C’mon and make it start
Hang on to your vision
Nothing is too hard
Live your life you feel it now
So c’mon and make it rock

Even if your world’s black - lights appear somehow
Don’t let it get you down
Live in the here and now
Leave behind what hurts you
Don’t carry it it leaves scars
Banish all your limits
Pull out all the stops

Hang on to your vision
Nothing is too far
Life is how you feel it
C’mon and make it start
Hang on to your vision
Nothing is too hard
Live your life you feel it now
So c’mon and make it rock

And in the seconds your life will seem to come to an end
Now let me ask the question:
Will you have enjoyed it then?

Hang on to your vision
Nothing is too far
Life is how you feel it, baby
C’mon and make it start
Hang on to your vision
Nothing is too hard
Live your life you feel it now
So c’mon and make it rock

C’mon and make it start
C’mon and make it rock
C’mon and make it start
C’mon and make it
C’mon and make it
C’mon and make it start

Hi @Alex Kohlgrüber , a big welcome to the forum and congrats on posting your first track.  It's a good one!  Things that stood out to me in particular were 1) your voice, which sounded pitch perfect, 2) the big snare you introduce in the choruses - that lifts the momentum to just the right degree, 3) the overall feel-good positive vibe of the track.  The rhyming scheme surprised me a little, although that's not necessarily a bad thing as it made me pay attention... in the chorus the way 'far' rhymes with 'start' sets you up to expect 'hard' is going to rhyme with something too, but then you end with 'rock', which was an interesting choice.. but better than rhyming with something too cheesy and predictable.  So I think it works.  There was some light percussion under the first verse that I wasn't sure about at first (tapping on a drum or something?) but I got used to it as the song went on.  I liked the repetition at the end too - a neat way to wrap things up.  Impressive debut on the forum - nice one!  Hope you stick around and post some reviews and some more of your own... there are lots of lovely people here.
It's all too beautiful.

@Alex Kohlgrüber - Great work Alex, really dig the 8va's acoustic riff. It has a reggae/lovers rock rhythm, but you don't make the obvious reggae connection, very interesting.

Nice vocal arrangement

Hi Alex - what a great song - really enjoyable. It has quite a loose feel which is very suitable - though I might keep the verse percussion (bodhrán?!) more simple to anchor it better in time.

Looking forward to more and to hearing your opinions too.

Hi Adam,
thank you very much for listening. Glad you enjoy it. And thank you for the tip.
Yes I have had the same feeling about the percussions after I recorded the song.
Sometimes simple and less is the better option ;)

I gave a listen to Stockholm Syndrome on Soundcloud. That's a cool song.
The style of the drums and the guitar sounds a bit like Maximo Park. I like it :)

Hi @Alex Kohlgrüber What a lovely refreshing upbeat song
I really enjoyed this one. You have really thought about the arrangement carefully and I love all the little starts and stops. The percussion is great as are the lovely backing vocals and the chorus is so very catchy and cute. A warm welcome to the forum and I look forward to hearing some more of your material. Jump in  review a few songs and you will feel right at home. Excellent stuff 👏

Hi @pompeyjazz,

thank you very much for this. Very happy you enjoyed the material.
I just had a listen to My drug, my cocaine on Soundcloud. Really great stuff.
The Refrain sticks in the head!!

Hi, nice work all sounding professional to my ears.
Catchy chorus too.
Just wondered if the title was the right one? Maybe the first line of the chorus perhaps?

Hi @Neil C
thank you. That's lovely to hear.
Actually it's a thought worth considering. When I wrote the song I wanted to have a title that is not very obvious for the refrain. However you have a point :) Next time I will do it differently

Very pretty tune @Alex Kohlgrüber - lovely duet - your voices blend nicely together! You remind me a little of Jack Johnson - the style of writing as well as your voice.

A catchy and lovely song.

Hi Alex,

first of all nice song. Lyrics meldody and harmony really are good. Eventhough I don't like folk music, but that song is pretty good.

On the flip side; I find the mix is pretty quite and dull. Do you think it can compete with the ones on spotify, which are "mastered to death". Don't get me wrong. It's fine for me, I can't do it any better but that is what cachted my ear immediately. Take it as some constructive criticism.

Grüße
Philipp

Hi @Philipp191985,

thank you for your feedback. Glad you like the song and also thanks for your honest opinion about the Mastering. Appreciated.
Well, I know what you mean of course. I am not sure what I expected. Of course the mastering cannot have the same quality like the one of a signed artist on Spotify
I have just started and see how it goes. Yeah and now I know that next time I have to think about what I can do to improve the Mastering. Step by step :)

But thanks for your insight. Constructive criticism always helps.

Best
Alex
