Hi Everyone.........Apologies for being a bit absent....I've been busy with this one over the weekend, and I guess it's ready to show  :D
All comments are welcome, and first impressions are most appreciated.
Thanks, in advance..................

She’s In Love
By Tom Tognaci

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13520238

Forty-five more miles to go
This old freight train’s moving way too slow
She’s in love
She’s in love ……..with someone else

The sound of steel has a lonesome bite
Crawling up my back on this winter’s night
She’s in love
She’s in love ……..with someone else

I got out two days ago
From a jail in Ohio
Heading for the place I once called home
I hang my hope on my Loretta
But she only wrote me one letter
Calling for the day when I come home

The northern lights are a mystery
And there’s no solace in their company
She’s in love
She’s in love ……..with someone else

I’m so tired of being lonely
I’d call home, if I could only
Know for sure that she’d be there alone
Now, all I have is my Loretta
And the words written in this letter
Calling for the day that I come home
And I’m coming home.
"I know the truth, by my struggle against it"

Great stuff Tom, so atmospheric. Love the way the guitar rhythm replicates the running train. Vocals are excellent. I'm in a swirling mist of steam on a dark dank night listening to this. Top job

Hey Ironknee.

A haunting tune fo sho. Reminds me a lot of old country gunslinger stuff like Marty Robbins used to do.

The song captures well the uncertainty and the fragile hopes of the main character.

Good old country choon,man.  :)

Hi Ironknee, Superb! My favourite Springsteen album is Nebraska, and this has echoes of that. Proper sad song, a story, and harmonica! Great stuff.

Excellent work and I agree the references to Springsteen /Nebraska. You have captured a deep sadness both in the lyrics and the atmospheric music. This one deserves to be heard to a wider audience, one of the best I have heard on this forum.

Hello Tom!

I've only been a member of this forum for three weeks so my knowing of
the great artists who are members here are limited but this is the best I've
heard on this forum so far. Absolutely brilliant. I even put my headphones on
(their much better than laptop speakers) and listened two more times.
Its both Springsteen and some 50's pop, especially in the 'Shes in love' part.

I only have one suggestion. The harmonica is a bit loud at parts and compete
with the vocals. I love the sound of harmonica but it has a tone that can be
piercing. Reducing volume on its track would not really fix it since there are a lot
of volume change/dynamics in the playing. I advice redoing with a more even
sound level in your playing.

An alternative is to pan it, reduce just some of the volume and add some reverb.

These are just minor things that would imo turn great into perfect.
Thank you very much for this inspiring track. It really opened my eyes(/ears) and
gives me hope in terms of music still being both rooted in tradition and
new in its very own way (this last sentence maybe lacks a bit in making sense
but my English has its limits).

Thanks a lot,
- Martin

Hi, great vocal style, that really works well in this song. Very reminiscent of Springsteen, which I guess is a good thing! Was very atmospherically recorded and the whole thing worked really well!
Enjoyed it!
Cheers

Like the way the guitars layer over each other at the start and the railroad rhythm comes in.  You have a fine voice and hit those high notes pretty well!  And love the lyrics - so sad and lonely.  Looked up 'Loretta' on Wikipedia - not sure if it's a car or a woman. ;D

i really like this.  love the feel of it. it chugs along just like a freight train.  good melody and lyrics, good hook, its got all the components required for a great song.

what i think needs improvement:
the harmonica seems to occupy same frequency space as vocals. maybe some EQ and a bit of compression to tame it?

the inserted train sounds aren't really necessary in my view.  the song is a train, and adding the sounds could be considered an insult by some listeners.  we get it man!  its a freaking train, and its already awesome.

great job

Hey there mikek.....thanks for stopping by  ;D
I would never intentionally insult any ones' intelligence with my music.
All my recordings are usually plagued with mistakes and errors  :P I record and produce these songs for my own entertainment......I have very little patience (and talent) when it comes to recording. I usually rush them and hope for the best. I really dig the train sounds, and can only hope that someone else does, as well.
Thanks for listening and commenting....see ya 'round

Hi Tom,

Loved the intro. It then builds into this great steam train sounding rhythm - really effective.

The vocal sounds brill over it.

Always like to hear some harmonica.

Nice melancholic feel to the whole thing.

Tom, i hope my comment didn't come off badly.  I absolutely did not mean to suggest that you would intentionally attempt to insult a listeners intelligence. if you are locked in with the train sound i can totally get that.  just offering another perspective.  i once wrote a train song (perhaps i'll share it here sometime) and i did the same thing as you, adding a lonely train whistle and some freight train sounds, during a bridge section.  after leaving that project for awhile, and then revisiting it, i realized that it needed a complete revamp, lyrics and all, and i came to the conclusion that the train sounds were a bit overkill.  perhaps i'm bringing my own junk to the surface in review of your train song.  yours is better than mine for sure, and i want to emphasize that i really dig the song. congrats.
