Title: Live performances
Post by: Wicked Deeds on September 30, 2023, 09:31:26 AM
I wonder if there might be an appetite for zoom live performances throughout the winter months?  We have flirted with this idea a little in the past and I know that one or two members are known to still tread the boards. It would be interesting to know if forum members are interested in spicing up the forthcoming winter nights.

I can also think of one or two members who aren't around at the moment @PaulAds (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20253), @Kafla @tone (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=1) for example who I would love to see in action.  We could draw up a calendar of gig events, asking each performer to play anything from 3 -6 numbers.

Thoughts?

Paul

@pompey jazz, that's brilliant!

@paulads you too my friend.

There are several people who currently frequent the boards who we would all love to see live in action.  So if you are reading and would like to give this a go, either PM me or add your name to this thread.  Rather than risk missing someone out, I will reiterate that this is open to all members.   I'll throw my hat into the ring too and hope that doesn't put anyone off.  :)

Please feel free to invite members who are currently not visiting the forum as we would love to see as many as possible in action.

Off the top of my head, @montydog (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18653) and @Neil C (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18856), the door is wide open for you guys!

at this stage, I'm simply trying to gauge who is interested before ironing out specifics including dates etc.

Paul

Can I just watch? Not sure I’m confident enough to play live yet 😄

@Nick Ryder (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=23004),

Sign up buddy.  I'm going to have to learn a set of songs to do this.  These days, I write then instantly forget so that I have room to create again.
You could always strum a few numbers.

@Wicked Deeds (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22987) If you want to test out how this works on Zoom, give me a shout. I know that when we were on Zoom before there are some issues with audio. I think it will work if everyone else keeps quiet ! (Apart from the performer) I'll run a few tests on Zoom myself to see what works !

I'm a novice setting up zoom but will give this a try.  @pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269).  We could do with ironing this out so I'll take you up on your kind offer to help.

So, I can see that the following people are happy to be on board:

@pompeyjazz (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20269), @paulads, @Neil C (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18856), @Wicked Deeds (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22987).

That should get the ball rolling and entice others to sign up to this event.

@Wicked Deeds (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=22987) Great stuff. I’ll make some notes about my Zoom setup and post before we get a Zoom session going

Of course, if it was any easier for anyone, it might be as well just to record the performance live in advance and make sure you’re happy with the playing/singing/levels etc and then post it on a video hosting service (YouTube for example) then just share the video here when the time comes…that would take away some of the potential horror of a live performance…or some of the fun, depending on your point of view 😀

Yes, I think there are quite a few of us who write while we are recording and when I first started playing live again I realised that I could hardly play any of my songs all the way through as I'd never done it before. Starting to play at open mics has been great as a) I have to learn the songs, and b) I have to strip away all of the production stuff and do a vocals and solo guitar version. I try and do one new song that I've never played live before at each open mic. I think @PaulAds (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=20253) idea of a video too is cool, just whatever you are comfortable with.

I'm so up for this now.  I need to rehearse half a dozen numbers but it will come back quickly.

I'm looking forward to seeing forum members perform whether it is live or a live recording.  Both are good ideas.

@seriousfun (http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=18630), I do recall that you once played one or two live songs.  It would be great to see and hear you around this place again.

Nice performance - so good in fact it seemed to distort reality in a very early 80's Doctor Who style - P. Davison would be proud.

The CCB are impossible to get together in 1 room together with their contrasting schedules, so sadly all I can do is wish you all great luck and joy with this.

Well, this morning, I worked out the chords to a whole song called "I Had To Go".  I'll now practice submitting this to memory ready for my live/recorded performance or both.  Where did I find the space to store all of those lyrics when I used to perform live?  chords, picking, lyrics all jostling for brain power.  Melodies are the easy part.  :P

It's quite a beautiful song and has never been played before in a live setting.

I sometimes do open mics
I could video record them and put those up?
