I'm going through a bit of Bowie at the moment - it's hard when you listen to the same stuff all the time but I'm gonna try and come out my comfort zone

I was just a kid when Postcard records released "Hard Land Hard Rain" the album was mostly written when Roddy Frame of Aztec Camera was 15 years old.  He's since gone on to show the music world that he is a true genius. He's now in his 50's and his latest album "Seven Dials" and recent album "Surf" demonstrate to any songwriter what the craft is all about. He should have been a huge star, though he did enjoy some time in the spotlight.  smart, heartfelt, unique. His music has enhanced and graced my life!

I’m 100% in agreement with Paul @Wicked Deeds here...Roddy is about as good as it gets...I've seen him solo and with his band and the gigs were totally different and absolute amazing too.

Hard to single things out, but “Surf” is amazing...and so is “the North Star” and so is...etc  :)

Great songwriter, great singer and a great guitarist too.

Cheers fellas. Here's something to get the day of to a good start.  "Spanish Horses". Live.  If you can't get past the sound quality, you'll see what Roddy Frame is all about.  For my money, one of the best, most inspiring guitarists and certainly songwriters around!

(It's Good) To Be Free by Oasis - it was free on a tape with an issue of the Melody Maker in 1994 - the whole sound and attitude totally blew me away.

Good pick with that Bon Jovi album @tboswell - 'Runaway' blew me away too. Infact it's still a great song.

The first time that I heard Housemartins - London 0 Hull 4 (which was just a couple of years ago), I could not believe that I had gone so long without hearing it. It became an instant desert island disc.

For heaven's sake, please somebody make sure that "Like Lovers Do  by Lloyd Cole is played at my funeral.  My soul/spirit is bound to hang around for one last listen before I cast  of  this mortal coil.

If it's could be arranged for all of Lloyd Cole's albums to take the final journey with me, starting with Rattlesnakes, then I will be eternally grateful!

Not sure I did recommend that. But some of those songs they wrote with Desmond Child should blow anyone away! :)

How depressing  ;D

Loads of stuff I can't stand here...or stuff I've heard that means absolutely nothing to me...

I love how it gets us all in such different ways!

Also, Tom Zé.
A friend of mine told me that I needed to hear this guy and he put on this 'Best Of...' collection that David Byrne released on his Luaka Bop label. And this was the first song that I heard:

Turned my world upside down.
Never heard anything like it.

Wow I'm going to have my work cut out here - one day I want to start an album club - a bit like a book club but with an album - someone picks an album everyone has a month to listen to it and maybe read a bit about the artist and then after a month at the next meeting everyone shares their views
