Love Vulture:

Feeding on the carcass
Of a dead romance
Waiting in the wings
Until he sees his chance

Circling around
As the commotion grows
Any sign of tears
He’ll swoop down on your bones

(Ch)
He’s just a love vulture
Waiting for the hurt to start
He’s just a love vulture
Preying on broken hearts

Scares the competition
With a show of force
Nasty little buzzard
Doesn’t know remorse

Picks at the remains
Until there’s nothing left
Toys with your emotions
Gets inside your head

(Ch)
He’s just a love vulture
Waiting for the hurt to start
He’s just a love vulture
Preying on broken hearts

(Br)
He’s always first on the scene
Like an opportunist thief
Says he’s only being friendly
Watch out for the feeding frenzy

(Ch)
He’s just a love vulture
Waiting for the hurt to start
He’s just a love vulture
Preying on broken hearts

He’s just a love vulture
He’s just a love vulture
He’s just a love vulture….

Great lyrics PeeJay. Very clever hook. Really like the chorus and the opening verses and bridge were great Only issue I have is with the first half of the second verse:

Scares the competition
With a show of force
Nasty little buzzard
Doesn’t know remorse

For some reason this verse just seems out of place. The lyric is so well crafted that IMO this verse is a bet of a let down and feels detached somewhat from the rest of the song.

Great lyric regardless. When reading this I couldn't get a Maroon 5 type vibe out of my head. It's a great hook 'Love vulture' and is the kinda thing thy'd actually sing! Good stuff mate :)

Phillip (did I spell that right?)  this is wonderfully simple and dark.  Dark and slightly moralistic at the same time.  WOW.... can't say I've seen THAT pulled off too often.

I wrote a lyric for a girl named Stephanie Andreus called "Cannibals and Lovers."  If you are interested in the comparison, I can get you a link to her reverbnation site.

It's not REAL similar to your concept, but the tone is the same.  Stephanie made a rap song out of it, and (believe it or not) I like the rap parts better than the rest.

Hi Peejay,

I like that a lot.
Flows well. You get a nice groove in your mind when reading through it.
I actually like that bit Sing4me isn't so keen on. Especially "nasty little buzzard." Much more pleasant than the word you probably first thought of. lol

Nice one.

I liked that too.... but felt the second line "with a show of force" was one (or maybe two) syllables short.

Fantastic lyrics! Kudos.

Except :-( I have to agree with sing4me88, the verse in question threw me also off, namely the 3rd line: how and why does the buzzard get in? Maybe:

scares off the competition
with his show of force
to defend his prey
he doesn’t know remorse

Cheers,
Bernd

Hi Sing4me, Verlon, Digger, James and Bernd,

Thanks for reading.

That verse means that although he sees nothing wrong in being predatory with women he doesn't like to see any other men sniffing around. Rather like vultures will fight one another when eating a carcass out of greed. Instinct i suppose.

'Nasty little buzzard' literally means a buzzard and euphemistically a nasty little b*st*rd! It adds a bit more spite and edge to it i hoped. That was meant as a general description of him.

I think the first two lines of each verse come to a total of eleven syllables as they are read in pairs.

Yes Verlon, by all means post a link to that song.

Cheers,

Phil.

You always thing of either unique topics to write about or a topic that's been done before plenty of time but add your twist on it. I'd say this is the later, I love the comparison to a vulture. Love it

Very very good - this is the second of your songs I've seen recently that is concise and packs a real punch.  Hope to hear it soon.

"feeding frenzy" - brilliant!

Hey Peejay
Super lyrics! I can tell you've put a lot of work into these - it shows.
If you would change "Doesn't show remorse" to "Showing no remorse" and pronounce Vulture as "Vul-cha!" when sung, this would be golden!
Best

Hi BooBoo, GTB and Paul,

Thanks for reading.

It's very difficult to find anything that hasn't been done before as we all know. Just a matter of trying to be a little different if possible.

Vul-cha as in 'cul-cha vul-cha' - gotcha!

Cheers,

Phil.

Seconding pretty much what's already been said, it's an unusual but great little write. Only bit I wasn't feeling was the second line if the chorus- 'waiting for the hurt to start'. It didn't really say anything too me, but other than that it's a cool song.

Hi Jess,

Thank you kindly for reading.

He's waiting for signs of unrest in a relationship - tears, arguments, in short - hurt.

May need a bit of tweaking here and there though.

Cheers,

Phil.
