Hello,

I am a published PRS member, composer/producer seeking to submit my work for use in film and TV.  Can anyone suggest any advice as to where to aim my work?  Are there agencies that deal with this area who act for film and TV companies who require original music?  Or agencies acting for composers?

I have a short medley of instrumental examples here:

I can write to desired genre/style requests and specific timings.

I would be grateful for any help,

Thank you

David Bolstridge

Hi David

Welcome to the forum :)  I'm trying to get into the film & TV music game too, and have made a little headway simply by submitting my work to publishers who compile MCPS music libraries.

They're mostly based on you writing the music on spec, and then producers/ whoever paying a licensing fee for usage, plus of course you'll get broadcast royalties.

Do a google search for production music publishers or production music library and you'll find way more than you can handle. Then it's just a case of a little research finding the ones you think are a good fit for your music.

Once you're established, you're in with a chance of being commissioned especially, but I think this is pretty unheard of for new composers. Also, the market is pretty saturated, but not to the point of no hope.

Hope some of that helps.

I think this is an area where TAXI are particularly strong

Interestingly, I have been researching this area a bit and it appears they are just as hungry for full blown hit songs as the mainstream pop pitches

I won't comment too much on the TAXI format as it is "horses for courses" and I haven't tried it myself - but I do think it has a place

You can obviously go the "do it yourself" route but, as TONE has mentioned, it is gonna be a tough slog, which you will obviously realise if you have already been published

PS

When you say TAXI do you mean the Independent A&R company, based in Calabasas, CA, that was founded in 1992 by music veteran Michael Laskow?
