"Lost"
by Tom Tognaci

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11894390

She's lost up in the mountains
unable to come down
chasing her more lofty dreams
just to spite the ground

And there she climbs the tree tops
to better glimpse her moon
but still the clouds get in the way
she won't be leaving soon....

...With her bags tied in a knot
and the rags she wears as clothes
her story's old, and one God only knows

When she was just a youngster
she learned that dreaming big
meant reaching for the brightest stars
was better than to dig

Then she heard it on T.V.,
"Work hard at what you love"
She was told that it just takes faith
in the Lord above....

...With her bags tied in a knot
and the rags she wears as clothes
Her story's old, and one God only knows

They say she's in the mountains
believing like a fool
that a wide eyed dreaming kid
one day will sparkle, too...

...With her bags tied in a knot
and the rags she wears as clothes
Her story's old, and one God only knows
"I know the truth, by my struggle against it"

Superb! That's spot on Tom - great playing, great singing, great melody, and great lyrics. Really fine start to the comp and setting the bar nice and high from the off. And, of course, perfect instrumentation.

I think I'm going to like this particular competition.

Tom,

Definitely a song for the bare bones comp.

Running out of superlatives.

Yet again, great guitars, and vocals.

Lyrics tell a sad story.

Very beautiful song and playing, and the sparse production gives a great live feel that totally adds to the feeling of the song. Sounds like it came off an old scratched Simon & Garfunkel record from the 60ies. Just my stuff.

Hey Tom,

Lovely tune,it felt like I was listening to you singing it around the campfire.Lovely singing and of course playing.Lyrics are lovely and thought provoking for me.

No biggie, but there was a noticeable bit of background hiss which is unusual in your songs?

Lovely stuff! Goodluck in the comp man!

Thanks for the comments, Lostboy.........I'm working on writing tunes that I can sing and play without needing any additional accompaniment. Thanks for noticing!

This is beautiful Tom, easily my favourite of yours. Superb guitar playing and vocal delivey. The song has it all...and done in one take. Cool.

Maybe could have put a middle 8 or little break but who cares about those when you deliver with such conviction? Good luck with this one in the competition.

Haven't even listened yet and already this is a favorite of mine.  LOVE the superlative lyric.  LOVE the underlying theme.  Love the folk feel to the lyric.  And, I'm pretty sure I'm going to love the lyric when I go listen after typing this.

When I went to listen, I did NOT like the music.  .  .  then I discovered that somehow I had double clicked when I should click, and was playing the song twice with a second's difference offset between the two.

Sounded awful.  But then when I caught on, and shut off the offending second recording, it sounded like I expected from you.  Wonderful music to go along with a wonderful lyric.  Excellent prosody between the music and the vocal/lyric.
